A little cheesy but oh well :P

--

She always hated the nightclubs. It was probably the last place she would have wanted to go. Bad decision, Khushi! She made her way out of the club through the exit door. Coming here was a bad decision, she cursed herself yet again. She, however, knew if she hadn't come, her best friend wouldn't talk to her, as it was her birthday today. She had to come, she thought as she finally felt some fresh air blowing against her skin.

The winter night was dark and mysterious, she thought to herself while wrapping her arms around her chest as a shelter to protect herself against the cold breeze. She started to walk towards the main gate, through which she had entered couple of hours ago but stopped abruptly as a not so familiar voice caught her attention.

"Hey."

She moved her gaze towards the direction of the voice; there stood a tall, handsome figure near the bench, with a hesitant smile adorning his gorgeous lips. To say, she was shocked would be an understatement. She was much more than shocked. The fast heartbeat was the proof of the fact that he still affected her. He matters! Her heart couldn't help the comment while her mind had different opinion all together. Don't look, Khushi. He doesn't matter anymore. She kept chanting to herself against the heavy and fast heartbeat. And before the emotions could rule her face, she masked her emotions with a ruthless expression on her face. Turning her gaze away from him, she spoke.

"What are you doing here?"

--

Arnav was sure of everything he had planned to say to get her back in his life until she spoke. Her tone was harsh and he couldn't blame her. He had been an asshole and he deserved that. Leaving her to pursue his career in Mumbai had been his decision. He was the one to push her away when she tried to hold on to a seven years old relationship. He hadn't considered her opinion in his decision and that had been the biggest mistake of his life. 3 years later today, he was a successful business tycoon, could afford every luxury of the world but he wasn't a satisfied man. He wanted more. He wanted her.

He had always wished to be surrounded by people who would go gaga over him but now that he had his wish fulfilled, he craved for solitude. He craved to be with the only person who had truly stood by him at his lowest point and still accepted him as he was. No alteration, no demands.

"Well… I just wanted to see you."

--

Sitting in a local caf half an hour later, Khushi didn't know how to react to his earlier statement. It had taken lot of time for her get over him and move on in her life. It had been difficult to get over the fact that someone, who you had considered so important part of your life, could leave you without so much of an explanation. But gradually, she had accepted it and moved on in life. Well, she tried anyway. Letting go of a relationship so beautiful had been not just been hard but heart wrenching. She had accepted it all though, thinking it would make him happy at the least. And here she was, trying to move on in her life.

"You wanted to see me?" It was a rhetorical question. Arnav, however, still nodded slightly, not leaving any gap for doubt in her mind. Khushi looked at him for a good few seconds and knew, he wasn't lying. His eyes always gave away his emotions and currently, the dark brown orbs held an emotion close to regret and guilt. She looked away for a brief second before continuing. "I'm surprised you still remember me, you know. I mean, you never used to answer my calls or my messages. I assumed you forgot my existence. Glad to know you haven't." There was no bitterness in her tone. Just truth laid in a small voice.

Arnav could only nod at her confession.

"Why are you here after all these years?"

"I wanted to apologise."

Khushi sipped her coffee as she pondered over his words. She didn't know how to feel regarding this whole conversation with Arnav. Here she was at a caf with Arnav sitting directly opposite her, asking for the second chance when he did not bother to contact her since he walked out of her life three years ago to pursue his career in Mumbai. What was expected of her? That she forgives him and be happy, forgetting the heartache she went through during the three years he was away from her?

"What do you expect of me?" A simple question laid out in a simplest of words. Khushi needed clarity. She was not the one to old grudge against anyone and Arnav was no exception. She forgave easily. It was the forgetting part that was difficult. She found it hard to move on. There were times when she was almost on the edge of moving on but one memory and she was back to square one.

"I don't expect anything of you, Khushi. I don't expect you to forgive me or give me a second chance. I know I've ruined it this time." When he received no reply from Khushi, he continued. "I'm sorry for everything you had to go through these three years. I know it's not the first time that I've done something like this but I want you to know that I truly regret my decision of leaving you without an explanation."

He looked up get some response from Khushi and he was not disappointed. She smiled a little, and met his gaze. "I don't hold a grudge against you. I… I can't hold a grudge against you. You did what was best for you and I completely respect that. Everyone has right to choose what is best for them. It's just that despite the seven years old relationship we shared, you didn't think it was important enough to at least inform me about your plans. You woke up one day, left a note and gone. If I was a hurdle on your way to the success, you could have told me. I would have happily moved away." The moist in her eyes indicated the courage it took her to let everything out. She had been holding it for far too long. "You didn't, Arnav and that hurt." The tears freely fell on her rosy cheeks as she tried to hold on to the sob that was forming in her throat. She cried, not caring about the fact that she was becoming weak in front of him. She had vowed never to show him her vulnerable side but today, she couldn't take it. It was all too suffocating. She had to let it all out to be able to breath in the free environment.

And the next thing she knew, he was by her side. His arms tightly wrapped around her while her head lay against his heart. Her own arms were holding onto his shirt firmly as if her entire life depended on it. She knew she should have pushed him away when he hugged her but she couldn't. She couldn't ignore the warmth his touch filled her heart with. She couldn't ignore the fast pace heartbeat of his heart as her head lay on his chest comfortably. She couldn't ignore the emotions she recognised in his touch.

Khushi didn't know what lay ahead for them. She didn't want to know what lay ahead of them. She wanted to live this moment and she did…

As per my version of the follow up of this story, I wouldn't say Arnav got another chance. It was a moment of weakness which may/may not lead to second chance :P

@everyone - Thank you xD

No redemption for Arnav necessary? Khushi just forgave him so easily. I guess I always wanted her to have a spine. Sounds like Arnav is also a repeat offender. Hrmm. Does this mean the lesson is no matter what Arnav does she will always take him back?

If that's how you want to look at it, I can't help it. As a fact, we seek comfort and solace in the person we are close to and that's exactly what Khushi is doing here. Just because she's letting herself become weak in a moment to seek comfort, does not mean she has forgiven Arnav. She shared 7 important years of her life with Arnav and seeing him, after nearly 3 years has shaken her. And she is simply letting her guards down in a moment of weakness. I wouldn't call that forgiveness. Rest, I'm sure you can imagine it better than I can :)
