SS: Unspoken part 7
No matter all the attempts by Akash to stop Arnav, the beast was ready to get his due revenge.
He made sure the village had fallen asleep when he left his house - grabbing his father's car keys. But the car itself was far. They only had three jeeps and they were for transportation to their far distant farms or when they went into town.
He walked with full force and authority. He was two hours far from Sadasya but his nerves were already coursing through his veins - ready to go into use. His mind ran to the gun tucked away in his belt. This was no negotiation - that possibility lost effect the moment his father took his last breath. No, this was revenge, and he was going to do it in the only way he deemed fit.
His paced slowed for just a moment when he saw a group of men standing by the cars. He cursed Akash under his breath for telling them otherwise no one would have come to know.
"Arnav, where are you going?" Dev asked and blocked Arnav's way to the door.
"You already know so don't bother asking me." He tried to keep his voice leveled but his rage was betraying him.
"You're going to drive nearly two hours to Sadasya to do what exactly? We don't know if Arun was even killed by them." He tried to reason and that was the worst idea.
Arnav's eyes showed fire that wasn't ready to be extinguished. "Who else could it be? Years and years of fighting over land with that bas***d Surya and you're still not sure who did it?"
"You can't say that with such certainty! There's no proof that they did it! Surya is the kind of man to gloat about his accomplishments - there hasn't been any news from that side." Dev pushed Arnav's shoulder back when he tried to squeeze his way through.
"Why aren't you fighting for him? Were you not his friend? Or are you betraying him just like Surya did?" He shouted in Dev's face who stared at Arnav silently.
"Your father was closer than a brother to me so don't be the one to get a punch in the face by me. Don't forget who trained you," he said making Arnav's face burn with embarrassment even in the darkness of the night.
"I know he did it."
"You don't know anything! What are you going to do? Kill him and every other Sadasyan until someone speaks up? Those people are as loyal to their leader as everyone was to your father! You will start a war so please Arnav! Don't throw away what your father tried so hard to keep in place, which is the truce. Don't do it."
"I'll kill them all," he said vehemently and then felt a steel hold around his neck. It was Dev's hand. "You're not a killer! Arun did not raise you that way! You kill one person on that side then you might as well kill us all."
"They killed my father," Arnav said in a quiet and trembling voice and his head fell forward onto Dev's chest as he let out all his suppressed cries. He wept hard and all the men around him - his family - wept along with him. They knew what a gem they lost but all the killings in the world would not bring him back. Arnav had to face reality and in that moment he did but the hate for Surya and his people suddenly burned so heavily with a dark passion, he refused to ever let it die down.
"Ammi," Arnav said as he came up behind his mother in the kitchen. It was the only time he could talk to her in privacy while Khushi was in the bathroom, taking a shower.
"I'm leaving in four days to Madurai. We'll be there for five days so I'm going to leave you the book, noted with the loans some people are supposed to pay back."
Avni nodded her head in accordance and looked away before Arnav leaned in a bit and spoke in a whisper. "Do not let her go anywhere by herself. Just because I won't be here, doesn't mean anything changes."
"Are you saying this in your favor or hers?" She tried to suppress her giggle when he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "Obviously hers," he said and when Avni's eyebrows shot up he quickly changed his answer, "I mean mine!" When she gave him a tight smile because she was trying to stop herself from grinning so widely, he scoffed and left the house.
*
After a light drizzle until noon, everyone was in for a surprise when the sun broke through the light clouds and blazed its light on the entire village. Everyone was happy to have such a sunny day after all the dull days.
Arnav waited for Aditya outside their house as the little munchkin wanted to play football with his friends in the fair sized clearing near all the family homes. But considering what a nice day it was, Arnav knew older boys would also come to play so he had to be there to keep things under control.
Adi came out with the ball under his arm and they walked to the clearing with other little guys coming to greet Arnav on the way. Just as he figured, there were teenagers playing around too. It was going to get very busy indeed.
*
Khushi came out of the bathroom and rushed to her room with her towel wrapped around her wet hair. She sighed a happy sigh when she looked down at her three quarter sleeved white kameez with white stitched embroidery, and light orange patiala salwar and chiffon dupatta. 'God bless you!' she sent a silent prayer for Arnav.
She quickly got dressed in that then brushed out her wet hair and left it open except two pieces of hair that she pinned to the back, then lined her eyes with kohl. She felt like herself again and for that, she was ecstatic.
She went into the kitchen with even a little skip to her step. "Where is everyone?" She asked Avni who was seated at the table and cutting up fabric in the shape of a shirt.
"They went out to play. Just walk down the distance of the houses on your right and you'll see them." She got back to work while Khushi turned around and took slow steps down the hallway before a smile spread on her lips. She slipped on her new black strapped sandals and left the house.
*
Arnav was sitting on big rocks under the shade of a tree with a few little boys sitting next to him because after all, who wouldn't take the chance to sit next to the laird?
And then as if the heavens wanted him to turn his head in that instant, he did and was captivated immediately. Walking towards the clearing, clad in a kameez that held to her shape beautifully and her waist long hair swaying in the light breeze, was Khushi with her eyes wandering off to nothing in particular before she moved her attention and her eyes locked with Arnav's.
Her heart skipped a beat to have him staring at her like that but she tried to keep herself as normal as possible. When she looked away because she couldn't handle his gaze, she still felt his eyes adorning her.
When she got closer and looked back up, she was thankful that he finally moved his head away. She sat down next to him on a rock higher than his so she sat leveled with his height. "Hi," she said with a small smile when he looked at her.
His eyes were eager to look back at her every time but he had strong willpower. But those eyes...he was so drawn to them, especially the way they were lined thick with kohl. He never bothered to pay attention before but he had noticed just then that her eyes were a light brown - almost honey brown.
She smiled at the little kids who stole glances at her and then they would break into a grin themselves. She did feel slightly uncomfortable with the older boys glances but she had an easy way to ignore their curious eyes.
"Are you going to play?" She asked Arnav and felt embarrassed for asking when he gave her a weird look. But he let her off the hook when he went into explanation.
"I just watch over the kids. In any way, I'm too old to play even with the teenagers."
"How old are you?" She asked, ready to be blown away with an answer of 35.
"I'm 28. Any other questions?" Arnav asked mockingly.
"That's not very old. You're only 28 and you have so much authority. Do people ever fight about it?"
"I don't care what others think," he said bluntly.
"Clearly," she mumbled and he raised an eyebrow at her. She let out a shaky chuckle then sat silently with boredom quickly taking over.
"How old are you?" His question caught her by surprise.
"22."
"That's young."
"It shouldn't give you any reason to treat me any differently than someone your age."
Arnav almost laughed. "It gives me every reason to treat your differently. Imagine all the things that you don't know? 6 years is a long span of time after all."
"Wisdom comes with maturity, not with age," she said seriously and he gave her an impressed look. "Where did you steal that quote from?"
"A very wise man...who died from falling in a well." She did not expect Arnav's reaction at all.
He boomed with laughter and everyone around him stared at him with wide eyes. Watching him laugh the way he did, Khushi giggled too. She couldn't imagine what life would be like if he were to always laugh and smile because he had the ability to brighten the hearts of everyone around him with just the sound of his laughter.
His laugh slowly died out but a slight smile remained on his lips. He focused on the game but his eyes followed after an older teenage boy who sat on the other side of Khushi. He was at ease until he heard him begin to speak. "You're the new girl here?"
"I am," Khushi replied in her soft voice.
"Do you like the place so far?"
"It's a beautiful place. My favorite is the falls."
With a chuckle he said, "That's a favorite for everyone...hello Arnav bhaiyya."
Arnav turned his hard expression to the boy. "Sid, you're playing with kids while your father is at the shop working by himself?"
Sid's expression fell, as did Khushi's. She saw Arnav's clutched jaw and how tense he was altogether.
"I'll go right now. See you around," he said to Khushi before getting up and leaving.
"Why did you do that? He was only being nice," Khushi asked quietly after a few moments. Arnav avoided making eye contact. "I'll do what I want."
"But you're only pushing them away. You should make them feel at ease - make them love you."
"Don't tell me how to treat my people."
"I'm not - it's simply a suggestion."
"I don't want anyone's suggestion." He was going back to his rude side. He hated when people told him how to act so he always got defensive.
"You don't need to get mad at everything!" She yelled before she got up and started walking down the path to go back home.
"Shekar!" Arnav called a fifteen-year-old boy. "Bring Adi home when you're done." He took long and quick strides towards Khushi and caught up with her in no time. "Now you're mad?"
She didn't say anything. She quickened her pace but nothing worked to move faster than him - he was always right there next to her; towering over her.
He pulled her arm when she was about to go up the porch steps. "Why are you acting like this?"
"You're not the only one who can get upset over a simple issue. You don't want me to ask any questions, you don't want suggestions, you don't want small talk - I'm going to die living like this! You said I could stay but...I don't feel welcomed."
She pulled her arm away and made her way inside while Arnav stood there feeling - for the first time - that he was at fault.

If anyone has noticed, Arnav and Khushi have not yet said each other's names. You're thinking "WHAT?" Aha, it's true! So I'll try to make that part special. 😉
A very big heartfelt thank you for everyone! I truly do appreciate every comment and like. Thank you all very very much. 🤗
Just corrected any mistakes and realized what a sucky part this is. So sorry for this but I'll try harder for the next part. Sorry. 😒
