Arnav Singh Raizada knew.
He knew that he had truly lost her this time and there was no going back to change his mistakes. He was known to be a heartless individual and today, he had sincerely lived up to the adjective.
Standing in front the only girl he ever loved in his life, he was not sure of his life ahead without her. She had not worded her wish but Arnav was good at reading her hazel eyes. Sovereignty. Her hazel orbs asked for sovereignty. Sovereignty from him. Sovereignty from everything related to him.
"I love you loads, Arnav but I can't give you another chance. It's just too much to ask from me. You don't bother about me for years and suddenly, turn up on my doorstep and expect to be welcomed. I'm sorry but it's not fair on me. I do deserve someone upon whom I can rely and you're not that person."
He wasn't hurt at her rejection. He was hurt at his inability to amend his past mistakes. She was right. He wasn't reliable. He was nothing she had ever expected him to be. She had never expected him to change himself for her. No. She didn't. But she always tried to look for that trait of trust and reliability. Alas, she failed. Time and over again. He had failed her.
He raised his gaze to meet her hazel ones, which seeked an answer. He knew he had to respond to her. But somehow, he couldn't find his own voice.
He took a deep breath, trying to remove the lump formed in his throat before he nodded. "I'I..I mean' I'" He struggled with words.
"Let me go, please."
There was something about her tone and the look in her eyes that killed Arnav a little bit more. And that precise moment, he knew she was better off without him. She deserved so much better than him and he would give her the happiness she deserved. It'd kill him to be without her but it would be worth it, if it'll make her happy.
"I love you." A tear rolled out of his eyes before he moved forward and kissed her lips one last time. One last time. One last kiss.
