How materialistic are you...and how spiritual are you......

hmmm dont know. if being materialistic means the need to acquire money and possessions, then i think once the basic roti-kapda-makaan aspects are taken care of, it's just an extra zero in the bank, just a way of keeping score. keeping score and being ambitious are very important to keep growing, but am not sure if there's much other intrinsic value there. i still wear that old watch someone gave me...

somewhere i also believe it's necessary for spiritual attainment to have a lot of the materialistic aspirations fulfilled. cant have the mind restlessly wandering off craving for that latest model while you're trying to get all spiritual. hope this is a good plug for some of us material boys and girls 😊

Does being spiritual only mean bowing to the gods. So,does it mean a person becomes spiritual only because he/she regularly makes it a point to visit the temple/ mosque/ church/ syngogue etc

i think those visits can only help, but they're not the only way. take the reverse. if u're visiting places of ill-repute all the time, it would be harder to connect with your spirituality. that said, i hardly go to temples, do frequent loud places at night where they pound your senses silly, yet feel i am fairly spiritual. oddly enough, even when i am in those places and maybe even after a drink or two... hmmm, perhaps because of those drinks?

In your opinion, what should our final destination of the soul be

peace of mind. contentment. wrong answer because i know the sages would distinguish between soul and mind/ consciousness. but consciousness is as far as i can get to since soul is such an abstract concept.

as for the existence of the soul that some have questioned, ok maybe we cannot justify it's presence yet on scientific grounds. but it would be a really unfair world if there was no hell to pay in the after-life for the bad deeds of this life and vice versa. we need to invoke that machinery to make sense of a world where good guys often finish last and bad guys often enjoy life to the last breath.

also, the current universe is perhaps what got started from the latest big bang. but who knows how many cycles of expansion and contraction we have actually had. maybe there are a lot of souls in limbo from previous universes which are finding physical body today, explaining the ever-increasing number of souls today?

DO you believe that God is omnipresent,or is he only at the shrines....IS God inside us too....🤔

i believe there is a unifying force all around and inside us. the fact that i can visualize this force only in a human form does not mean that actual reality is the same. but believe i do. there is just too much precision and clockwork symbiosis in the world around us. would be a lot of coincidence if it all came about without purpose and design. has to be a Creator.

How important is it to follow customs...Does a person become any less good/devotional/spiritual is he/she doesnt celebrate the functions and act according to the customs😕 WHat role do the priests/preachers/gurujis/swamijis play ..Are they pivotal in connecting all of us to God😕,or are they just not needed at all..

am personally not into customs, but i'd still think following them can only help, with the caveat that they are good ones. how one fathoms they are good ones is of course a big question. even if you dont understand what you are doing, the drill should help. the sounds and sights can help. you also dont become less spiritual if you dont follow the "good" customs.

Who here believes in astrology😛???...Do the planets really play a role in shaping our lives...😕🤔

personally i do not believe in astrology. i suppose everything in the world does interact with other objects in terms of energy particles, waves, strings whatever. The lighting in our homes can impact our mood which can affect the way we act which can lead to effects which again impact our moods... There's a similar idea in chaos theory which holds that a butterfly flapping it's wings somewhere could ultimately cause a hurricane on the other side of the world. Some kind of a non-linear dynamic feeback system. That said, i think the planets are too far away to exert too much influence on us if at all. i'd also like to think that i can control my own destiny to a large part... maybe that's our arrogance, but that view makes life more exciting...

and finally, what are your thoughts about the so widely spoken about Nirvana....What do you think it is,and how do you think it can be attained😛

i suppose i'll know when i get there. meanwhile i can only guess that it's a state of total bliss and contentment. every time i get what i want, i think i've gotten nirvana. but not to be. yet😊

while i am at it, let me also suggest that i feel there are two contradictory approaches to acheiving it. either you're totally disconnected and detached from everything and everyone around, or else you're attached to others to the point of feeling their pain and basing your life around that. meaning charity.

and I'd be glad even if this post garbers a single response😛

great questions! just wish i was as sure of things as i would delusionally have myself believe😊

Spirituality, in a narrow sense, concerns itself with matters of the spirit. The spiritual, involving (as it may) perceived eternal verities regarding humankind's ultimate nature, often contrasts with the temporal, with the material, or with the worldly. A sense of connection forms a central defining characteristic of spirituality — connection to something greater than oneself, which includes an emotional experience of religious awe and reverence. Equally importantly, spirituality relates to matters of sanity and of psychological health. Like some forms of religion, spirituality often focuses on personal experience.

Narada (Sanskrit: ????, nrada) or Narada Muni is a divine sage from the Hindu tradition, who plays a prominent role in a number of the Puranic texts, and especially in the Bhagavata Purana. Narada is portrayed as a travelling monk with the ability to visit distant worlds and planets. He carries with him a musical instrument known as a vina, which is primarily used to accompany Narada's singing of hymns, prayers and mantras as an act of devotion to his lord, Vishnu or Krishna. In the Vaishnava tradition he is held in special reverance for his chanting and singing of the names Hari and Narayana and his promoting of the process of devotional service, known as bhakti yoga as explained within the text acredited to Narada himself, known as the Narad Bhakti Sutra.(source :wikipedia)
