i think d most surprising thing in this article to me is d last sentence, the estimate of how much a child actor earns!

im like really???
is the earning consider part of the contract, thus confidential... so where did the reporter get this estimate from??

Wow, this is a great post. I thought people had stopped from having actual discussions that legitimately criticize the makers. I was disturbed by the hullabaloo made by Toral's "heroic" saving the baby PR that was churned out for a week and a half. The amount of articles that came out was nauseating. We all initially thought it was to an attempt to shove Toral down our throats so that we would accept her, but now it seems like a two birds with one stone situation. There was a SBS segment where Toral was clearly seeking sympathy by showing her scraped elbow and SIddharth made a snarky retort about how the baby had been hurt more.

I don't think I could have been more disgusted by such crass manipulation, but clearly I can after seeing this post. HOW bloody convenient for them to come out with a TOI article about motherhood. And yes, I completely agree, with a lot of the points made by a lot of members in that how is Avika allowed to be playing a young woman in her 20s? I don't care if a lot of people say she is mature beyond her years...that kind of maturity is scary because people have no idea what it took for her to be like that. But no, most of these parents brush it off because we all know how much Indian parents love a "samajdhaar bachcha" *rolls eyes* OH the irony of that statement..*SMH*

How is this NOT child abuse? It's not like the kid knows better to say no to being on television. I mean if any child were told by their parents they would get to be on television, what kid would want to say NO?? Maybe a few, but STILL, how many would really say no? ESPECIALLY if the kid is made to be the sole breadwinner of the family? Or pressurized to know that the family's material wellbeing counted on them?

You know what? How do we expect these channels to do right by children when they can't even do right by their adult actors??? Their all caged entertainers! They have ZERO protection from the law and when I say law, I mean ENFORCED law. Which is probably a joke. And I hate it when people say they have a choice. Like how heartless can you be to say that? Do tv actors/actresses not deserve a work-life balance? They have NO limits. It's like selling your body to slavery when you sign up for a lead role in a show. Yea you get paid a lot of money, but at what cost? Rajan Shahi (or some other Indian tv producer, that I read in an article), once said in an article that the burnout period for a tv actress is 6 years. SIX YEARS. And some of these young tv actresses start out around 17-18. So you would be burnt out by age 23-24. And honestly by that time, most producers don't want to hire such girls because most of them don't have the "innocence" factor anymore. These tv producers constantly look for the next innocent girl next door. Their like vultures in this particular hunt..

That's startling when you think about girls like Avika. This girl wants to make it big in Bollywood after television, but honestly I can't help but wonder when her burnout period will be. It may be a scary thing to wish for her a burnout, but it may be emotionally necessary for her. Otherwise when is she going to stop and take a breather in life and really live it? Colors should be ashamed of themselves. I mean I have seen a production house hire a 16/17 year old to play a young college going chick who gets married, but honestly having a 15 year old play a young woman married to a man who is way older than her??? Colors certainly knows to how push their limits when it comes to their actors.

I feel sorry for these kids, always working, but never really living. Something NEEDS to be done about labor laws in this country. CINTAA can't even protect the actors because the actors are too scared to speak up because they fear they will lose their jobs thus ending their acting career! It's already competitive and difficult enough to get a job in the business, and then to sustain yourself in the industry? Who wants to take chances by playing whistleblower?

This all comes down to strict labor laws need to be made AND enforced in order to protect child AND adult actors from the mentally and physically exhausting work environment of television.

I've lived in the States too and am now here in India and after having read - "the hymn of the tiger Moms", I realize that we are all too different and like this beautiful quote - have very different lenses and we alone can decide best.

Plus the kids are also not all the same. There are daredevils and and super charged ones(like mine), and there are gentle, mild mannered ones, like my sister who wud get a fever the next day, coz the kid next to her got scolded for being noisy. 😉

I guess it takes all kinds to make the world.

And i too use the TV shamelessly to feed my kid coz he's picky about food and Nat Geo and Discovery channels clean out his plate in record time. 😃. TV is good. Some toons are good too. Like you said - some programmes actually impart great values.

But then - some also show mindless movie songs n those Japanese action toons which r only violent without any story whatsoever, and yet other silly ones that don't teach anything at all. But then - if a parent just needs some quiet time and the kid is done with his jobs for the day, I guess we shud all be allowed our guilty pleasures 😛.

Am so thrilled to hear from a lot of you who felt the same about kids and moms crying in front of kids. 👍🏼 I loved Mannu getting a bath yesterday - lets hope the CV's will not show us Mannu in a difficult situation again.

Am reminded of that gem of a movie - "Life is Beautiful" by Roberto Benigni.

Where a condemned and captured Jew dad keeps his innocent kid entertained and makes his kid believe it is all a game in the concentration camp when life is so very difficult in real. The courage it would have required to do that - makes my heart swell up, till I can't breathe.

That is a TRUE Parent. Imagine what the kid would think of this act when the kid grows up and thinks about their parent. ⭐️

hook i agree about the japanese kids cartoon shows i never let my kid watch shin chan or any of such nonsensical japanese cartoon shows. I was in India for holidays last year and since my child was bored I let her watch the cartoon channels on indian telly...she could not understand a word of that chota bheem so i changed to another channel and there again some japanese tv show dubbed in hindi where the kids lied to the tuition teacher abt homework and later it was shown they DUMPED THEIR PARENTS IN THE BID RUBBISH BIN!!!

I just switched off the tv...

i then allowed her to use my ipad and watch her UK shows on wifi...

now UK shows are much better as they are educational..like peppa pig and ben and holly's little kingdom...

my daughter hates tom and jerry as she says i dont like to see people being rude to each other or hitting each other...

she loves scooby doo as she loves to see the mystery being solved but when the scary monsters come she closes the eyes..

We're in the U.S and Disney Channel and PBS kids are a staple at our house, however my girl loves to watch Peppa Pig, Charlie and Lola, Ben and Holly and Hi 5 on kids YouTube.

Hooked, I'm gonna look up that movie you've mentioned and see if I can view it online. Can't wait!! Thanks for the referral.

making laws to protect these actors/actressess, stating it simply, is the easy part!

problem is that its these very entertainment industry ppl who r not in favour of such laws!
i recall readin some articles india wanted to implement strict laws for child actors, maybe even restrict minimum age, as its child labour! apparently there was alot of backlash from tv indus n bollywood abt the same!
these actors work 12-16hrs/day, but never do anythg to change it as they get labelled as throwing tantrums!
