I haven't been watching Qubool Hai for some time now. And every time I come on this forum I always think about how things could have been different and how I would have liked the story to go. I still have like month and a half of summer left. And with Ramadan and work, I'm not really doing anything else, so I thought I'd write this fanfic. I haven't written anything for like four years, but I thought hey why not.
This story takes place a little after Asad and Zoya's sangeet on the show.
The Heart Murmurs
Asad and Nikhaat stood at the train station watching the train steadily gain its momentum. There was hustling and bustling all around them but they just kept their eye's on the train. The wheel turned and the engine blew. The train went on its way leaving behind nothing but its dark thick smoke. Asad tried to keep watching the train, but the smoke brought tears to his eyes. He wasn't sure if the tears were from the dark smoke, or the dark hearts that were on that train.
"Are you okay?" Asad drew his glance to Nikhaat while they were driving home from the station. She was looking out the window but Asad could still see her teary reflection, she was heartbroken, Asad's own heart was in a similar state. "I'm fine bhaijaan. Something's just aren't meant to be", Nikhaat said with a heavy heart. "Besides those two deserve eachother…"
Asad smiled while making the turn into his house. "Imran and Tanveer deserve each other because everyone else deserves much better than them, including you. We should be happy we found out before it was too late", Asad said looking over at Nikhaat.
"You don't have to console me bhaijaan, I know. It's just a little hard but I'll get over it. It just be hard for you too, Tanveer was your friend. You knew her longer than I knew Imran. Her betrayal must be so hard on you", Nikhaat said as he wiped her tears.
Asad let out a laugh and pushed his dark hair back with his fingers. "The Tanveer I knew is long gone. The person I put on that train is not my friend…she is just dark smoke. Besides, I'm used to betrayal. Friends, family…it's all the same now", said Asad while caressing his beard with him hands. He suddenly looked over at Nikhaat and realized who he was speaking to. "I'm so sorry Nikhaat, I didn't mean too…I'm sorry".
"It's ok bhaijaan. I know what you mean. It's fine." Nikhaat knew how Asad felt about their father. In fact, their father may have been the same man, but he was a different father to Asad and Najma than he was to her and her siblings. "Anyway, you never told me how you got Tanveer and Imran to leave the city?" Nikhaat asked. Everything had happened so fast that Nikhaat ever got the full story from her half-brother.
"It was simple really. When we found out about Tanveer's stone eye everything fell into place. She was the one trying to create misunderstandings between me and Zoya, she even tried to hurt Zoya at the Sangeet. At first I was going to hand her over the police but…", Asad stopped for a second and looked down at his hands. He lied to Nikhaat. When he first found out about Tanveer, his first instinct was to strangle her neck with his bare hands. However, he reason why he didn't kill her or send her to jail was the same.
"I just wanted to know the truth. She wasn't always like this you know. She was a kind person. After Abbu left, she was my only confidant…she was my friend. I just wanted to know why she did this to us…to me." Asad felt his eye's burn and his hands begin to shake. Even after all these years, betrayal just would not leave his side. He laughed at the irony.
"When she told me about Imran, I knew for a fact I would never let him marry you. However, I also wanted to give her a chance. She was a friend once. No matter how much I hate her now, she is pregnant, how do I just send a pregnant woman to jail. So I cut her a deal.", Asad let out a sigh and turned over to look at Nikhaat again. "But the rest was all you Nikhaat. If you hadn't had faith in me, and faith in yourself, none of this would have been possible.", Asad put his hand on Nikhaat's head and smiled.
"After you broke off the engagement, I told Imran I knew about Tanveer and the pregnancy. If he didn't want all of this to become public knowledge, if he wanted to save his family's honor, he would pack his bags and leave town with Tanveer for good."
Nikhaat turned around unable to hear Imran's name anymore. "Well let's hope one day they learn the value of family and honesty", she said as she wiped the final tears she would ever cry for Imran. "Anyway bhaijaan, let's get you inside. You have to get ready. We wouldn't want you to be late for your own wedding now would we." Nikhaat said as she opened to the car door. "Zoya bhabi would kill both of us", she laughed as she walked inside the Khan Mansion with her brother.
Asad smiled to himself hearing Zoya's name. But Asad knew it wasn't over. Tanveer may be long gone, but the burden she left with Asad was getting too hard to bear. He had a decision to make today and time was running out. Betrayal truly never wanted to leave Asad's side. Today, he would be betraying Zoya in one form or another. Asad put his hand on his heart and felt it's odd beat. Betrayal had finally found his heart.
Asad opened the door to his home.
