"Miss Farooqui? It's your turn now right?" Asad finally asked, breaking the silence between them. Zoya turned to look at him dazedly before nodding in agreement. As she reached out to the coffee table to get a piece of paper, she caught sight of the portrait of herself that Asad had drawn yet again. She marvelled at the perfection of it, and then suddenly realized that anything she drew now would look mighty stupid in comparison.
"Actually woh kya hai na Mr Khan, I don't feel like playing Pictionary anymore. I get bored of games easily you see. Let's play charades instead!" Zoya decided, as she leapt off the sofa in excitement. She noticed Asad narrowing his eyes at her, and prepared herself for another barrage of excuses from him.
"What nonsense. I just told you that I don't watch any Hindi films Miss Farooqui! Ab yeh charades ka kya natak hai?" Asad asked heatedly, as Zoya simply laughed in response. He only agreed to Pictionary because it was a reserved game, plus he was already good at sketching and he knew that. On the other hand, charades was the complete opposite of it. He was pretty sure he couldn't act for nuts.
"Charades mein natak hi karna parta hai Mr Khan! And it's fine if you don't watch Bollywood, we can still play charades using Hollywood films right?" Zoya rebutted easily, as she watched the corner of Asad's mouth twitch in displeasure.
"Main koi bhi film nahi dekhta, Hollywood ya Bollywood! I only read books," Asad replied as he continued putting up a charade of being a movie-idiot, quite ironically. Zoya knitted her eyebrows into a frown as if she was in deep thought. When a smile began to twitch its way up on her face, he knew that she had come up with something new already.
"You only read books? Great! Then we'll play charades using fairytales. Now please don't tell me you don't know any fairytales, because I'm not going to buy it," Zoya announced her new idea, and Asad closed his eyes and groaned in response. He finally opened his eyes and nodded, a pained expression adorning his face as he admitted defeat for the second time that night.
"Yippee! Chalo aap hi shuru kijiye," Zoya exclaimed in delight and did a small victory jig before settling back down on the sofa to prepare for the show Asad was going to put up. Asad raised his eyebrow at her antics in an attempt to hide the grin that was beginning to form on his face. She was really very adorable at times, making it extremely difficult to dodge her silly demands.
Asad got off the sofa with a loud sigh and then stood right in front of Zoya, his arms crossed at his chest. His eyeballs rolled upwards as he took a moment to think of which story to enact, and then finally rolled up his sleeves a little as he readied himself for a round of charades. He fisted both his hands and then beat them on his chest, as if he were some kind of monkey. Zoya watched him with her mouth hanging open in disbelief.
"Yeh kya hosakta hai Mr Khan?! Why are you acting like King Kong? King Kong isn't a fairytale you know," Zoya stated, and Asad responded by shaking his head vigorously, telling her she was wrong. He continued beating his chest hoping that she'd get it anyway, but Zoya was still at a total loss.
"Kuch aur kijiye na! Obviously I'm not going to get it if you keep doing the same thing," Zoya suggested, and Asad dropped his arms immediately as he thought of something new to do. He looked at Zoya and suddenly found inspiration, as he charged towards her and grabbed her around her waist with one arm, pulling her into his body. Zoya gasped loudly at the unexpected physical contact, her arms automatically wrapping around his neck, clinging onto her dear life as he lifted her off the ground and swung her while reaching out into the air with his other arm as if he was holding onto something.
Zoya struggled to catch her breath, but it seemed Asad was so involved in getting his act done that he hadn't even realized how close he'd pulled Zoya to himself. When he finally decided to turn to Zoya and see if she'd figured it out, his breath hit her cheek as his lips missed her face by mere inches. Zoya had a bewildered expression on her face, he assumed from the fact that she still hadn't understood what story he was trying to act out. He gently set her back down on her feet, but didn't remove his arm from her waist. Instead, he began to tug at his tucked-in shirt and pull it out of the constraints of his jeans, giving Zoya quite the scare.
"Yeh aap kya kar rahe ho Mr Khan! Chodo mujhe," Zoya half-shrieked. She struggled against his grip and then took a few careful steps away from him. It took Asad another minute to digest what he had just done, and understand why Zoya was suddenly cowering away from him.
"Woh actually... main... I was acting like Tarzan! And you were Jane... and I was saving you! Swinging from trees you know? And Tarzan doesn't wear a shirt, isliye maine..." Asad tripped on his own words as he quickly tried to explain himself. The worry on Zoya's face disappeared slowly through his sentences, and she shook her head in amusement instead.
"Allah miyan, what's wrong with you Mr Khan? Tarzan isn't even a fairytale! Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast... those are fairytales," Zoya reasoned, as she tried very hard to control her laughter. But it wasn't a very good attempt, because from the expression on Asad's face, she could tell that he wasn't very pleased with her for patronizing him.
"Aap itni smart ho toh aap hi kijiye yeh stupid charades," Asad sulked, as he settled himself down on the sofa and crossed his arms. Zoya smiled at his grumpiness and nodded, tapping her index finger on her cheek as she decided on which fairytale to go with.
