What was so amazing in their story which made us spellbound? Their great chemistry? Storyline? The whole concept of love and hate co-existing? The magic they created? Or was it just their love? My answer is that it was a classic love story yet so different from all the others we have previously heard/seen and admired.
Both were happy in their own way in their own worlds. They had control in their lives and were living in peace with their families, yet when they met each other they realized that something is missing. Eyes met, sparks flew, tempers flared.
From the very beginning they wanted to go away from each other. They did not want to see each other. They did not want to meet each other or talk to each other. All their efforts were directed upon going away from each other. Countless times they took this decision; the decision of never meeting again. But fate had something else in mind; an unseen force compelled them to face each other time and again. Time after time they found themselves face to face.
Since the moment they met they had a unique connection, or we should say that it was there even before they saw each other. They could sense each other. It takes a lot of time for such a connection to develop in any relationship. But for them it was always there. They could feel each other as effortlessly as breathing. Gradually as time passed, they grew more attuned to each other, they could hear and talk to each other. Love like this defines spirituality; when even though your partner is away from you, you can still feel them as closely as if they are right beside you.
Arnav and Khushi were introduced to us as star crossed lovers. Two completely opposite people with different backgrounds, different class, different ideologies, different values, different beliefs and different perspective on life. One was night, the other was day. One was earth, the other was sky. Such was the complexity in their situations that it was unlikely that these two could ever be together. But still there was something which joined them together. They were as different as chalk and cheese, yet there were qualities which made them uncanningly similar. Their undying spirit. Their formidable temper. Their loyalty to their families. Their tragic pasts which affected their personalities in different ways.
The love and hate co-existing was the most unique facet of their relationship. Can you love a person whom you hate? Or can you hate a person whom you love? This made their relationship different from all others. Even when hatred was at its peak there was love in their hearts. This was proved during that scene when Arnav and Khushi are locked in the store room at AR. At that time Arnav is furious at Khushi that she dared to shout at him but the moment she starts crying it was as if someone had emptied Arnav of all the anger. His expressions changed completely. Love and hate co-existing.
Trust was another important factor in their journey. Although they hated each other, somewhere deep in their hearts there was trust. This was proved when in time of distress Khushi broke down in front of Arnav. She turned towards him for comfort, not towards her family or anyone else. She sought comfort and solace in his arms and there she admitted her insecurities and fear. Even Arnav, who was a shrewd and practical person, believed in khushi's faith of their parents watching over them in form of stars. When he was missing his mother he asked Khushi to reassure him that his mother was indeed with him. He was willing to trust her.
Misunderstanding was another constant in their relationship apart from love and hate. Both misunderstood each other right from the start. Whether the issues were big or small. There were serious issues like when Arnav misunderstood Khushi to be a gold digger or when Khushi misunderstood Arnav to purposely endanger her life. But apart from this there were trivial things as well like Arnav thinking Khushi broke his laptop or Khushi thinking Arnav held her dupatta. Both always misunderstood each other but in spite of that their bond never weakened, instead it grew stronger day by day. The reason for that were their feelings which they both were denying. Arnav knew Khushi was not what he is thinking but to keep the hate mask, he ignored it. Khushi knew Arnav is not what he pretends to be but to simplify things, she overlooked it.
Misunderstandings were etched deeply in their journey. But gradually as they spent time together, came to know each other in and out and faced many hurdles together, they understood each other, eventually falling in love.
Through loving each other and understanding each other they came to a point when they completed each other. ASR became Arnavji for her. Khushi started trusting Arnav that he is actually very different from what he portrays. They knew each other so well that they even completed each other's sentences. Love was at its purest form where these two were concerned.
I would call their love story a classic one but not a perfect one in the beginning. They had to go through a lot. They were opposed countless times and their love was threatened by their families, society and by their own egos. Their first wedding was full of hatred and they had the maximum number of missed chances at romance. but they went through all these situations and emerged victorious. Together as one.
Do we know another love story like this? will there be any story like this again which will make us spellbound and mesmerize us to such an extent that it will become the center of our world? when such a story will come only then we will be able to move on from the enigma which is ARHI.
