Really enjoying your dori analysis. It's one of the pivotal moments of IPK, and one that I revisit ever so often to understand better.
@bold That was also my reading of the scene. Arnav snapped at Khushi's words, had to make her pay for finding his weak spot, and instinctively realised how to hurt her most: through badtameezi. He broke her dori. And then was hit viscerally by the repercussions of his action. Khushi turned her back to him. His eyes were drawn to her (almost) bare back, catapulting him into naked lust. So, in a sense, he'd surrendered control to her. And he remained under her spell, until Khushi (whose mind was engaged) found a way to cover her back - by swinging her opened hair over her shoulder. That action finally snapped him out of his lust, making him realise if only for a moment the innocence of the girl before him and the enormity of his actions, his appalling loss of control, before he shut the thought down. But that swing of hair held him back from further harming Khushi, and he let her go. It was her hair rippling in waves down her back that softened his lust, maybe threading it with remorse.
Incidentally, in another scene later on after first marriage when Arnav is about to berate Khushi for taking so much time in the bathroom, Khushi once again swings her wet hair back, and catches him by surprise. When the hair hits his face, Arnav becomes dazed enough to lose track of what he was about to say. The attraction to her hair is quite powerful.
Beautifully said!!! You have uncovered a whole new angle for me...đ The bold portion... Really I have never thought of his attraction to her hair.. Coz I have been so pre - occupied with his love affair with her back...And The til on her cheek... đNow that you say it... Remember the time he puts her hair down after the sangeet...
Thanks for reminding me of the Teri-Meri dressing room scene when he releases her hair from the clip with an "ab theek hai". Can see the connections clearly now.
@BOLD: What about the til on her cheek? I seem to have missed that completely. Do tell.
Another key scene involving her hair was actually the "almost kiss" scene. After repeatedly examining in minute detail the sequence of events that led to Arnav's monumental loss of control by the pool-side, I've come to the conclusion that it was Khushi pushing back her bangs that snapped his tenuous hold over his self-control and impelled him in a dream state towards her.
Until that point he'd just stopped going away, turned around, run his eyes up and down her form, taken in her nervous hands, tense face...But it was the moment she pushed back her bangs that he advanced on her, drawn to her like a puppet on a magical string.
