You can't compare the likes of Ranbir & PC's BO pull to that of Ranveer and Sonakshi's..that's just unfair now...

Of course the former pulls in more masses at this point. Ranveer just returned after nearly 2 years with his 3rd film which was completely different to his first two while this was Sonakshi's first leading role.

the khans would look out of place in varun's role. it needed someone like ranveer singh. khans have a certain image if they go out of that i dont think they'll be accepted the same way

While with Barfi everyone started off laughing right at the beginning with the opeing credits song Picture Shuru for Lootera the whole hall was quiet. I think at the end of the day people looks for entertainment factor when they choose to go to a movie. While Barfi trailer highlighted the fun parts in the movie the Lootera trailer didnt. While that was being honest to what Lootera was as a film it kept the weekend numbers and subsequent WOM low for the film as compared to Barfi.

This is a pretty unfair comparison between Ranveer and Ranbir's BO pull individually.
Barfi came after 5 years of Ranbir's debut. By this time, he has had a release each year, and a much praised and award-earning Rockstar right in the year before Barfi. So, his pull increased slow and steady. Whereas, Ranveer had only 2 releases in the last 3 years and this third movie Lootera came out after quite a long period of break. He didn't have a chance to build up his audience, he is just like any other newbie for the audience, many may not even remember him clearly. Now, if we have to compare 'offbeat' movies a little more correctly, then we should instead put Ranbir's Rocket Singh with Ranveer's Lootera! 😉

Well obviously this type of film make more money with the Khans, especially if it carries the kind of critical acclaim it did. But the thing is, with Khans, budgets shoot up.

SRK-Aamir might fare better but Salman I doubt because this type of film is not mass friendly AT ALL and that's his main audience.

I think it's unfair to blame Ranveer-Sonakshi for the collections of Lootera...and compare that to Barfi. They are both very new in the industry and their BO power, star power is nowhere near Ranbir-PC's. There are also other fundamental differences between the two films that make Barfi a more...likable film than Lootera but I really don't want to get into that..because it will only start a fight.

himani i have not blamed ranveer or sonakshi atleast i dont intend to

u r right with the khans the budget would have shot up but then the movie might get a bigger opening .as far as age is considered when has BW followed the norms .didnt srk played 25 yr old something unconvincingly in JTHJ (i havent watched this crap just read member posts😆) but yet placed the movie in 100 cr club then what difference would it have made if he or Aamir played varun

Are no no, you didn't blame Ranveer-Sonakshi...but comparisons came up so I was addressing them..

Yes it would get a bigger opening, and with the acclaim, it would jump a lot over the weekend too. LOL yeah, but SRK was also 40 or so for at least half of JTHJ. He could have done the role acting wise, easy actually, but it would require a lot of suspension of disbelief to buy him as the 20-someting year old. 😆
