"Thank you so much for this Shyam." Khushi's eyes were grateful.
"Please, Khushi. It's really not that big of a favor. They are looking for a clerk to maintain numbers and I know these people." He said smiling heartily. "Besides, my office is only couple of minutes away from this place so if there is something goes wrong, I can always help you." Khushi's smile fell. She was fairly independent person and didn't like someone walking into her personal space as frequently as Shyam did.
"Still, thanks," she replied anyway. Shyam continued to smile.
She had gone to the facility and they had redirected her to main office. She had a masters and the admin of the facility had kindly explained to her that she was over qualified for the job. The main office had called for a walk-in and she should try it out there. If it didn't work out, she could have the clerical job. Khushi had thanked him profusely for his kindness and rushed out immediately.
While in auto, she contemplated on calling Shyam and telling him about change of plans. His parting smile made her rethink her action and slid the phone back into her bag.
She wasn't hoping on getting the job anyway so in the end this little trip wouldn't matter. She covered her eyes and prayed silently.
She wanted this job for the sake of her family and her sanity. For which she was ready to trade all her time and blood.

Arnav Raizada was a busy, busy man who very rarely interfered with day to day on goings of his company. But he put everything on hold when it came to hiring executive assistant. His first assistant, Aman Sharma was hired as his assistant when the company's office was less than twenty square feet. The second assistants, however, didn't last. Arnav ensured that he was always a part of that hiring process as efficiency of the second executive assistant directly impacted his work. That person would be the bridge between him and the rest of the administration when he traveled along with his first assistant.
So, here he was, hiring an assistant second time that year.
"I have always admired you Mr. Raizada and I want to part of the change you are bringing in the industry."
"I want to learn and grow like you Mr. Raizada."
"I will show you how big of an asset I am to this company Mr. Raizada."
"This job will realize all my dreams, Mr. Raizada." The woman in front of him has the gall to be coy in an interview. Arnav Raizada rolls his eyes. Aman, snickers behind his palm.
"What kind of dreams are we talking about here?" Arnav asks leaning back in chair. Aman successfully morphs laughter into a choked cough not that the woman is paying any attention to him.
The woman explains her dream of being Arnav's assistant and him seeing her for all the 'goodness' she is encompassing will give her a bigger role.
"Probably all the way to my pants," Arnav muttered under his breath and Aman broke into violent cough. The woman looked confusedly at the two men.
The interview continued with candidates offering all sorts of things.
"I may be new at this but my learning curve is off the charts thus I should be able to pick up everything that's thrown at me."
"My experience in previous companies will help you realize goals faster than your current targets."
"This job pays well."
Arnav stilled.
"Excuse me?" He asked the candidate whose name he couldn't remember or particularly cared when had she introduced herself.
Aman looked at his boss and then towards candidate at her brazen openness. The girl looked flushed when she heard Mr. Raizada who was looking disinterested till that moment had looked up at her with a raised eyebrow.
"I-I mean with the kind of ad you put out in paper that you didn't care if a candidate has previous experience or not which would mean the kind of work the role demands is either unique or is driven by common sense. But then again knowing the size of company and the direct association the job has with the CEO, that's you then you would want someone with a completely fresh perspective unmarred by other organizations. With that-"
"Ms. Gupta," Aman stopped her ramble. Arnav looked amused for the first time since the start of interviews three hours ago.
"Yeah, I am sorry." She flailed her hands and shook her head. Arnav and Aman exchanged a look.
"How many interviews have you been till now?" Aman asked again.
"Seventeen." Her reply was instant.
"Did you ever try to contemplate why didn't get those jobs?" He persisted.
"Half of them weren't what they claimed to be and when they did, they wanted someone experienced. Even when I was alright working for those which they didn't claim to be, I didn't either have the right certificate or education or the necessary skills they demanded. I mean, what should have one studied to make zillion copies using a copier with instructions printed on the machine." The answer was instantaneous. When Arnav held her gaze, she clamped her mouth shut.
"Is money important?" Arnav asked. People sugarcoated about the expected salary but the woman sitting in front of him had blurted out the real reason for applying in his company.
"Yes sir, it is." She replied turning to look at him.
"Would you be happy if you had a lot of money?" He asked again.
She looked thoughtful for a moment. "I don't know about happiness but I sure do know that I would have relatively more peace of mind."
Arnav looked at her with an unreadable expression. After holding her gaze for several seconds, he replied. "I see."
Aman continued the interview when Arnav fell silent. It was the first time in history of interviews of second assistant when Arnav wasn't being snide or sarcastic. It was as if he really wanted to know her reason. She was going to be hired and he knew it. He knew Arnav long enough to know what his decision was going to be.
He looked at the application of the candidate and smiled.
"Welcome to Raizada Industries, Ms. Khushi Gupta," Aman said softly.
