After centuries of invasion, underdevelopment and mismanagement, India is slowly making progress. But there are a lot of negative and pessimistic attitudes prevailing. How proud of you to be Indian? Do you have the same pride as an American?

I am quite proud to be an Indian, but like americans, we do not have to show our patriotism, we can be patriotic even without being 'in your face'

It's fun you bring this topic up. Just a couple of days back I was thinking how we look for foreign approval on everything we do.

When british conquered us, we were made up of couple of small kingdoms fighting among ourselves. It took us years of being ruled upon by British to realize our need for freedom and our power in unity.

Similarly when some indian author gets famous abroad, its them that we take note. I think this also contributes to a fact that we aren't too proud to be an Indian in general. Maybe it has to do with how India evolved, being ruled by so many different people.

I think almost every Indian is proud to be an Indian, the country has made strides in the last few decades, Yes there is a lack of self confidence in Indians, that is why the "India Shining" is taken as a negative than as an inspiration. We have made progress in science, standard of living, culturally we have improved, we have accepted a lot of things that we never imagined we would

Having said that, when we are amongst ours, we should not be ashamed to accept our deficiances, we can have harsh critisms, unless that we are not going to know what to fix

And yet there are significant numbers who, while enjoying the social, political and cultural embrace of India, claim their allegiance to other nations ....

I am very proud of being an Indian (ancient past, current progress) yet very ashemed of being an Indian (Overly decked up women (women underclad in movies😆😆😆 ooh contradiction), a society influenced by KKKerials, and KKKhows on KKkkv, DOWRY 😡 😡 😡, bride burning 😡, messed up cultural issues in the name of religion) . The feeling of pride and shame is pretty balanced out.
I am only a naturalized American and I am proud of it too. That feeling is also balanced out when it comes to thinking about Afganistan, Iraq, rise of taiban and saddam issues 🤢 🤢 🤢

I am a pretty balanced citizen of the world, selfishly more worried about making my parents proud 😉 😆

While Im proud to be an Indian at times, Im pretty much ashamed to say that most of my pride comes from history or culture...
Out of the present... I dont find too much stuff to be proud of when I observe things...

some of the incidents of the present including noida killings and gate way of India new year eve molestation make me feel ashamed anyway...

Who would you support in a football match between USA and India - the penultimate test of where a person's loyalities lie 😉

Welcome to Debate Mansion CB ji!!

I'm proud to be an Indian for its glorious past, generous present and greener future.

Just compare your motherland with your(means not really yours,in general ) home.If your home is not that excellent like your neighbours will you leave your house and stay in your neighbours house. If you don't like your family members will you go to your rich neighbour's house and stay with them if they permit you to stay there. The answer will be definitely "NO".Whether we are rich or poor; educated or illiterate our house and our family members are ours.

But there's nothing wrong in trying to improve the standard of our house keeping the neighbour's house as standard within our limits.

Just try to love your family members and your house then you will realise the postive aspects of your home(like good garden, good family members) and make a sincere effort to make it a good place, not for the sake of other family members atleast for your convinience.

Same thing can be applied to Indians rushing to foreign countries.

But if your family members throw you out and if you are staying as tenents in your neighbours house then its a different issue.(Indians who suffered with reservation problems and lack of proper oppurtunities come under this category)

I love my country and I feel I can make some effort in helping my fellow Indians in developing their life standard.

JaiHind!
