Episode 309 Discussion: 27th June 2013

Welcome to the Episode discussion thread which we call as Viewer's and Reader's Respite. That's very apt, don't you think ? 😉. And that proves our objective.

Objective behind the thread is

It helps in keeping the forum clean without much litter. People just need to fall in a habit.
We can have it like breathers at first followed by analysis.
It also helps like-minded souls and pals bond and gel together to drop in their thoughts for themselves as breathers and for their friends as a peep into the episode and for others to post their reviews.
And those from different time-zones, who do not get to watch the episode at this time of telecast (Indian 8:30 PM), without any worry to trace or keep track of all their buddy's posts, they can come here, read with leisure and later post their analysis after watching it from their Time zones.

Extremist thoughts and moralizing thoughts are not welcome over this thread. It is entertainment show we are watching. The channel calls their programs as entertainment and we are watching the show. Discussions are welcome in light hearted and in realistic manner. Moral policing is not appreciated. We do not want to feel stifled into that kind of atmosphere here.

There are several other social welfare sites that are there to discuss the genuine issues. If for some reason, it is felt that social concerns have to be addressed and ethical and moral responsibility needs to be exercised for watching entertainment, then; certainly the forum is an open place to create separate ATs and build up that kind of propaganda.

Please heed to this as direct request and conditional requirement to participate in this thread. Strong words such as psychopaths unless used in show, need not be used to instigate riotous atmosphere or start sermonizing.

POINTERS for Writing/Posting of your reviews and thoughts over this EDT

Do not litter the thread with chit-chat conversations. A little is permitted to have the friendly atmosphere, but when you feel like chatting more, it is desired you take your conversation with your buddies to alternate venues like chat clubs, pm mode etc.
Quoting Policy: It is desired that people refrain from single, double, triple and multiple quoting of posts on a repetitive basis. They can pick out the parts that they like to quote as opposed to quoting the entire post. It is often seen that we have to scroll through the pages when all they have done is quoting and more quoting with one line response to the actual post. IF has a rule that more than three times quoting is not allowed. But nowadays as people read IF posts over phone, it is preferred that people do not quote longer posts and just extract the portions of the post that they like to respond to and if they still find it relevant to their thought process then get the entire quoted text.
Regulate the font size. Keep remembering that. It is really not pleasing to see big bolded letters for no special reason.
The thread becomes a mess when you give your review and do not REST for sometime until others have posted. Please understand, respites or reviews; once or twice are good for few pages...don't make a regular chat thread with your reiterating/whining/complaining on the same point. For the online readers, the thread becomes unpleasant read. There is a separate Complaints thread in Main Forum.
When episodic content is emotional, take a deep breath, give a good lengthy review; that acts as your vent in one single post...and make an exit to calm down your nerves if you still are possessed by only what you've seen.

Episode 309 Discussion - EOD Summary

Radhaji allows Sultan and Meera to stay in RK mansion.

Events Of The Episode

1. Episode begins with Radha appealing to Sultan's good sense asking him not to malign Mohand Kundra's name. In return Sultan implies that she probably knows the truth about Meera and Mohan's relationship. Radha is bewildered. She forbids Sultan from further badmouthing Mohan Kundra and allows Sultan and Meera to stay in the house and crying she leaves and locks herself in her room.

2. RK and Bittuji discuss about what to do next when Madhu comes and questions RK about his plan of action. Upon hearing his idea of stern action she chides him saying it will boomerang on them. RK laments that his mother and wife are sympathizing with Meera and Sultan. Madhu accuses him of using her last night when he had Sultan arrested. RK retaliates telling her that he expected her to support him no questions asked in this great dire situation but for her supporting the gangster is more important than her husband. He leaves with feeling of disgust.

TRP and GRP Ratings - Week 25 - 17th June to 23rd June:

MEIEJ TRPs went down 2.4, vs 2.5 the week prior. The show now at #9 position
Colors continues at #3 among channels - GRPs were higher at 188 vs. 181 the week prior. Starplus at #1 position, and Zee at #2.

Note: does not take into consideration impact of adding new markets at various points. Size of these markets, viewing patterns, demographics, and level of digitization etc. of those markets would impact TRPs. Also, hard to judge IPL's exact impact.

The overall TRPs for the week demonstrate the effect of the viewership of the culmination of the wedding (awesome Suhag Raat on Monday, which would have had a positive effect on Tuesday); the face-off on Friday that was well promoted; combined with some ho-hum episodes focused on the Bhai Bhai track. Since we don't have the daily breakdown as yet, I'm going to use the number of page views and posts on the EDT as a very very rough proxy - seems like there was a pretty high level of interest (starting with positively euphoric on Monday, turning to downright gloomy and negative on Saturday) during the week. So am not surprised that TRPs didn't go down all that much compared to the week prior - people were still watching. BTW, the week prior, if you recall, even though it was the wedding week, there was quite ample screen space devoted to the other track.

However, TRPs next week should be particularly interesting - with the absence of special Rishbala episodes, the Bhai track in full swing, and viewer confusion/ambivalence right now about Madhu's behavior. If current TRP trends are any indication at all, seems like the CVs are going to have a progressively smaller margin for peculiar experiments in the future.

And a comparison to other top 10 shows. TRPs for top shows were a mixed bag, with some shows increasing substantially, and some shows decreasing compared to the week prior. MB TRPs dropped slightly compared to the previous week. It is now at #9, retaining its position in the top 10 because of two #4s and two #8s.

The two charts below show: 1) Top 10 shows TRPs (MB is yellow) and 2) TRP increase/drop for those shows, compared to the week prior. The blue bars on the second chart are the ones that did better, the red are the ones that did worse, and the no bars are the ones that were the same.

PS: all my usual caveats apply - this is a rough analysis etc. etc. Feel free to weigh in and point out the holes (I freely admit there's probably some!) 😊

haven't seen the episode , bas read the update ..n after reading the update, dun feel like watching it 🤢 i'll rather give it a skip...tomorrow Radha and Madhu will accept Meera and Sultan and RK will be out of RK mansion..kahani with a "twist" 🤢

i didn't mean it..i was trying to say that the way things are going, Sultan and Meera will be in and RK out..bec. Radha and Madhu can FEEL others pain 😆 RK is the villain in this happy family..

I haven't watched the episode either Charu, also read the update. Can't believe what I just read. They basically glorified Bhai and made RK look bad once again. 🤢 From what I gathered it seems its going to be RK Vs the rest. And the precap. What the heck is going on. 🤢

@Sounds: I just read your note regarding Sultanism in last EDT. I had interpreted it differently...to me it was a confirmation of why I think Sultan is out for revenge. He is angry because he thinks that Radha and RK have stolen what should have been Meera and his...the love, the family , the life, the wealth, the fanbase and last but not least Madhu. I can see why he did not corroborate Meera's story...because he cannot afford it to turn out to be lies...that would mean he was destined for where and what he has now. He would rather believe that he was destined for something better and someone swooped in and took away his due. He is right that rest of the family and Madhu would not exist here...Radha would be someone else's wife and Madhu would have been someone else's wife or Sultan's wife.

Ofcourse Sultan does not have an inkling of the life that RK has led or how much effort he has had to put in to get here. It take a lot of inner strength to make hard choices...while both Sultan and RK dealt with personal tragedies and challenges...RK fought back and became a star while Sultan chose the life of crime. RK held onto relationships in his own way while Sultan seems to coldly shrug them as and when mood strikes. Even if Sultan had the same resources and circumstances as RK, he would have forged a very different fate for himself. It is very difficult for people to accept thier failings and Sultan suffers from the same flaw though Madhu cannot see it yet.
