RALEIGH -- Police put an apparent Harry Potter fan behind bars Monday, accusing him of using a stolen bankcard to buy several volumes of the popular children's book series. Raleigh police think Thomas Lucius Steen, 24, of Raleigh used a Wachovia debit card belonging to another man to order five Harry Potter books -- two copies of the recently released "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" as well as the first three books in the popular series by J.K. Rowling -- according to an arrest warrant filed by a detective from Raleigh Police Department's cyber crimes unit. The total bill for the Harry Potter books came to $212.54 from two Internet booksellers. In addition to the books, Steen is accused of using the debit card to pay $257.76 for a Sharperimage.com clock with a hidden security camera inside. More than $50 worth of goods from Hickory Farms, the gourmet food store known for its packaged meats and cheeses, was also paid for with the bank card, the warrant states.
Charged with a felony count of unauthorized use of a credit card, Steen was being held Monday night at the Wake County jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
