I think people are misunderstanding and misconstruing this issue.
The goal of the court is to offer some protection to people in long term sexual relationships, especially for women and children born out of wedlock. The overall intent is good, but the approach is incorrect. Marriage shouldn't be an afterthought of sex and children, but a more serious commitment. Rather than try to implement a new definition/means of marriage, I'd like to see paternity and maternity laws – that dictate rights and responsibilities on both individuals who have a child out of wedlock.
