i have never celebrated father's day, but yeterday i saw perhaps the deeper unseen meaning of being a father.

less than two week's ago, his younger daughter, all of thirty had decided to take her own life, no one knows why. i went to visit them yesterday, completely forgeting it was father's day... i chatted with my friend, they were going to the cemetery she said, i'd been wanting to go so i asked if they were ok with it if i came along. and so i went to this pretty little place, really pretty i tell you, where my friend, her husband, their son in law who'd just lost so terribly, and a niece, we all sat or stood under the sun with huge umbrellas, around her resting place, a patch of grass grew beautifully on it, pots of flowers, a little white picket fence, candle holders... i can't describe how peaceful and loving the environment was. and there he and his wife recited the prayers that they wished to for their beloved daughter. i could have listened for hours. right at the end he asked for another book of prayers and read about the difficulties (i forget the exact word) of mary when she lost her son. his voice was quiet, with a hope in it almost, as though he hoped his daughter was listening.

they poured water over the grass and flowers, the colourful little windmills all around the cemetery placed by loved ones on the graves, turned and added to the sense of joy.

then his wife said, so where are you taking us for lunch?

i was a bit uncomfortable. but she said... yes, he's taking us out for father's day lunch.

he did, and it was the most lovely meal i'd had on a sunday afternoon in a long time, sitting among genuine, beautiful, strong, loving people, lots of laughter and eating too. when the bill came, his wife insisted he pay... his treat. it was father's day. he smiled sweetly (the man has one of the sweetest smiles ever) and fudged his wife into paying. i hope his daughter felt his love.

sorry if this bothered anyone. but there was so much there i had to jot it down. every day, life teaches you. and there is a line i fell for in ipk that somewhere is about this. amma tells khushi, with reference to marriage, that you figure things out by living this life. jeevan ji-ke. this is about living that life... till we do, we never know.

glad you aren't complaining, wiwy. and your "senses are all ablaze," cynthia.

it was always a mad love, no way to understand its whys and wherefores... we all tried to "analyze" but really we mainly "felt" it and so knew with a certainty that's scary it was there. can two actors just communicate this with a set of later edited shots, often shooting without the other being present, unless they really understood every fibre of this feeling? i have seen more and enough movies, romances, love stories, the works, a thousand and one bedroom scenes, a million and more long sensuous kisses, you name it... but never ever this tight knot of feelings ricocheting off my heart, my gut... how the h did these two do it. the more i write, the less i feel it gets to the core of it.

there was the writing... the directing... no doubt about it.

but this level of "hit" with just a few looks and hand movements, and stepping back or forward?

and when i look at asr/barun sobti's eyes... how many things do they want to say? ufff.

thanks, ladies, for reading my complete collapse before this whole thing. 😆

i really understand what you are saying and I am in total agreement. They were magnificent actors. I have been watching some of the shows from kidnapping on and many, many times there were the BD's present. It was their acting not necessarily there magnatism together that made some of these scenes really work. i was very surprised that they both could act just as well with the BD's as with each other. I too have watched many movies, tv series etc, etc., etc., (pun intended lol) and these two just have it. They make me cry, feel from my gut and stir my soul. UFFF!😳

My dear friend thank you for sharing this heart wrenching story. My son is 30 and to even G-d forbid imagine such a loss my heart sinks. My children have lost many friends to suicide in their teens and I always hosted the children at my home. We all cried together and supported each other together. We know now that they are at peace, tormented by life, but their few years that we all have had with them is the gift. May all who suffer from depression or such, or have the "strength" to take their own life I pray for peace and happiness for them and the families that mourn them. My brave friend you have shown me another side of you which I can adore. Peace to you and your friends, I will keep them in prayer.

Episode 132

The Deal

In the cafe a young man takes a deep breath and falls to his knees asking a woman to love him forever but she can't answer. He shares his feelings of undying love to her while their siblings watch from across the room in shock. He begs her to tell him she loves him.

"Jiji", Kushi calls her. She asks her about Akash and she didn't even tell her. Now LG has to become involved. He asks Akash if he has lost it and adds, with HER sister? The two are now going to have a battle. Kushi says Akash spoke about marriage first. Her sister hasn't even answered. Akash tries to continue his conversation with Payal but the two knuckleheads continue their battle. He tells the sisters, plural, to stop day dreaming. He begs Akash that he didn't mention marriage. The waiter comes in and lightens the situation by asking if they would like two couple tables. ASR says to him angrily do you find us as couples? The waiter gets flustered yes, no. Mineral water or soda?

He says to Kushi he won't allow his brother to go into a relationship with HER sister! She says the same. Kushi tells Akash not to feel bad but the refusal is because of him, ASR. She tells him she will find many grooms for her sister. He says then start looking because he is not interested in making his brother a confectioner. Everyone in the caf laughs. And she doesn't want her sister to be under the control of a dictator, she says it seems the British have forgotten to take you along. The caf customers laugh again. He asks her what did she say LG? And she says confectioner? Both Payal and Akash ask their siblings to stop, it is a matter between them. Akash says she hasn't accepted yet. Payal says and she won't. Her answer is NO! Akash says but he loves her. She asks love? What do you know about me that you love me she asks him. She asks him if he knows why she came to Delhi from Lucknow it was because her marriage broke at the last minute. Arnav's eyes go wide. Kushi looks worried. Does he know what her parents had to go through because of this? You don't know but HE? HE knows everything. She looks at ASR and says she is talking about the day that'Kushi stops her. Payal is in tears. Kushi shakes her head no, don't continue; anyways her answer is NO. She turns away from him and as we all know that is indicative in IPK of lies!!! She loves him but won't say. They leave the men there, Kushi looking back at Arnav. His jaw clenches, guilt much?

Akash and Arnav are in the car and Akash sighs. He is visibly upset. Akash asks about the meeting and ASR says he will manage over the phone. Akash gets out of the car all forlorn and ASR is perplexed. ASR gets out of the car and remembers Payals words, he pictures in his mind Kushi falling into his arms the night of his fashion show at Sheesh Mahal. Her running out of the room he locked her in and them discussing her dowry, the wedding and how it may break. He said so let it break. He broke her pearl dori that night. He is visibly pained by these memories and feeling guilt, pain and remorse it seems. Why didn't he listen, she was telling the truth. He slams his fist on his car.

Kushi is on the phone with Anjali but she won't be going in today for Payal is very upset. Kushi goes to speak with Payal but she doesn't want to talk about it. She wants to be left alone.

Kushi is having a conversation with DM and doesn't understand why her sister didn't tell her anything. She shares all her feelings with her sister. She asks the Goddess to take care of her sister for she is worried about her.

Akash is looking at the payals he bought for Payal. He hopes he could change her mind. ASR comes down the stairs to see an upset Akash. Instead of facing it and his guilt he gpoes to turn around but Akash sees him. He sees how upset Akash is and goes to him. Akash tells him he has refused him for the second time but he is unable to accept it. He says that she wants to know how he fell in love when he doesn't know her but he asks his brother is there any reason to fall in love. He asks him about Payal's broken marriage. Akash tells him it makes no difference to him because he loves her a lot. Arnav asks him are you sure about your feelings for this girl? He says he loves her and Arnav says he doesn't understand about love matters. He just wants to know if he wants to spend the rest of his life with this girl. Will you regret this? Akash answers never, he will love her forever. Okay, then it's done; Arnav says he will make the deal final. ASR gets on the phone.

Kushi's phone rings; it is him! She tellshim her sister has already said no. He says his brother is not ready to accept that answer and he must meet her in that caf in half an hour. She says she won't meet him and hangs up. Through gritted teeth he says her name slowly, KKG. She hangs up "cursing" him too! "Who does he think he is!"

Payal goes to the cupboard and Akash's gifted dupatta falls on her head. She is talking to herself not knowing Kushi is looking on. She says what will her consent do when their destiny is not to be together. She asks for his forgiveness; how many times has she refused and broken his heart? She breaks down in tears holding the scarf close to her. Kushi remembers when Akash gave her the dupatta for her sister, when Happy tells Payal about Akash coming for his car and she smiles when she realizes that Payal loves Akash. She tries to call Arnav and he is trying to call her. "What the?" he is sooo angry he can't get through to her. She must be talking with her fianc, which makes him even angrier. She gets through to himfinally and his first words to her were whom was she talking to, like it is his right to ask her that question. She says never mind and they meet that night, same hotel, same waiter.

"Table for two?" He warily questions them. Arnav attempts to pull out the chair for Kushi, she goes around to the other chair, he goes to the chair and she says she is sitting there. He says he knows that is why he is pulling out the chair. Chivalry obviously isn't dead when ASR is around! He asks what she wants to order and she says tea. He says to the waiter tea and black coffee and she jumps to tell the waiter "NO SUGAR" for his coffee. How sweet! Kushi tells him he was right and he answers, he is never wrong. The tea and coffee come but her tea is black and he says she makes her own. She mumbles then what do they get paid for if she has to make it they would have been better off at a tea stall, but atleast they gave a biscuit for free. She attempts opening it with her teeth! He says if her conversation is over about tea and biscuits could they please discuss Payal and Akash. Kushi tells him that payal has been upset ever since she refuse Akash's proposal. All she wants is her sister to be happy. He agrees that it would be good for Akash as well.

He thinks this deal will be good.
