Swetta Keswani |
Keswani plays the role of Nandana Mittal, a woman abandoned by her family, who comes back to claim her share of family property when her father dies.
Playing this challenging role was not easy, says Keswani. "I found this role very interesting. It was something unlike anything I have done to date."
The episode depicts Mittal's fight for her right to inherit her father's property. Being an outcast from the family, she finds it difficult to come back and garner support for her claim.
Also the fact that people are unaware about her sex change operation keeps her away from the media. "Nandana was a guy before she did her operation. Her name was Mohit, but as a guy he always wanted to become a woman," she says.
Reacting to comparisons drawn between her character and real life cross desser Bobby Darling, she says, "Nandana is not as flamboyant as Bobby. She is a complete woman with all the necessary equipment. I think Bobby is not close enough to my character yet."
Describing her look, she says, "She's a woman, so she wears skirts and formal tops. Her look is very corporate."
Siddhanth (Pawan Shankar) plays an important role in making society accept her for what she is, irrespective of her past.
"Siddhanth is shocked when DNA reports expose the fact that Nandana was Mohit once upon a time. It makes the case more complex and challenging. But he decides to go for it despite the odds," says Swetta.
Keswani says she hopes this role paves the way for her getting more interesting characters.
"I have given my best to essay Nandana's character. I hope people react to this character positively and writers come up with more scripts like this." Kewsani's episode will air on Siddhanth on April 19 at 9.30 pm.
