Does Bollywood Ruin You If You Can't Succeed...?

With the recent death of Jiah Khan a lot of questions started pondering through my mind. Her death was a very unfortunate one and she was way too young to end her life. Her career may not have been so good in Bollywood, but she was a talented girl who could have excelled else where.

My question is that does bollywood ruin you as a person if you can't succeed in it? Does it make you depressed? Does it make you feel like a failure because you couldn't achieve success on a huge platform? Actresses like Gracy Singh, Gayatri Joshi, and Sneha Ullal to name just a few, didn't fare well in the industry. But one thing they all had in common is that their first film was with a super star (Aamir, Shahrukh, Salman). The same can be said with Jiah (Amitabh Bachchan ji). To work on your first film with these actors is truly an opportunity that not many get. I don't know where these ladies are now or what they are doing, but they seemed to have moved on.

I recently watched the movie Heroine and saw some dirty parts of the industry coming out. I'm not sure if the industry works like the way it was portrayed in the movie, but I wouldn't be surprised. Actors have a very 'dirty' professional life. It is not always pretty. Even the Dirty Picture portrayed some negative aspects of the industry. For fame & success, anything can be done. And when stuff like this happens, it'll obviously lead one to suicide (in extreme cases like shown in The Dirty Picture).

Is there pressure once you step into Bollywood to do well and succeed?

I know that depression is a medical problem and a lot of people suffer from it. I almost went in that path, but I stepped out of it somehow. I have many problems in my life right now (some of you may have read my posts & know about it). But I learned through the years that committing suicide just isn't the right way to go. It doesn't solve anything and it hurts so many people around you. Of course we only can speculate on why Jiah did what she did. Some say it was boyfriend problems, some say it was because she thought she was a failure, some say no one around her gave her encouragement and supported her. The real reason I guess we'll never know. I just wish she had taken the help of someone. Its really sad to see a great young aspiring girl who still had a bright future ahead of her, end her life like this. Do you think its Bollywood that did this to her? Meaning had she not been in the industry and pursued her career elsewhere would she have been in the state she was in? I wish she got some encouragement from her family & friends.

It was so sad to see that very few Bollywood celebs came to her funeral. Where was Amit ji? Only Aamir & Ritesh were the big names there. Very sad. God bless her soul. And may God give all the strength to her family and friends.

I didn't know you were/are going through a tough phase CPR. But admitting it and fighting to overcome is one quality I respect and admire in you. Big hug for that 🤗

Moving on to your topic stardom, fame and money comes with a price tag on their own. Some are gutty, strong minded and have support from family and friends during tough times while some lack in one of these aspects

Not everybody absorbs success and failure equally. Not only in Bollywood, but this applies to everywhere and every celebrity in the world. If you take Hollywood, there are the likes of Lindsay Lohan who is still struggling with various problems along with people like Hillary Duff who is leading a happy life. Both embraced fame and wealth at a very young age but poles apart in accepting, adapting and absorbing consequences of fame and stardom

My heart goes out to celebrities who could not cope with the pressure and this is why I feel for them despite gossip, negativity around them

tons of people come to Mumbai daily to be in Bollywood. You can see only 0.0001% succeed. 90% is all about filmi connections. Is hard. But many return to normal lives.

Yeah I've gone through a shit load in my life with my family, friends, & a guy. 😆 I'm still not over it all yet, but I'm trying to keep the strength going. Aww thank you for your kind words. 🤗

I agree. Some are strong, others are weak.

I think she had a hole in her heart and not cancer...

It was tragic IMO that Madhubala and Dilip Kumar could not get married...they made a great pair onscreen..

Its not true of just Bollywood but any career as long as you let circumstances overpower you. Many times we aspire for something as a child but when we try our luck as adults we dont succeed in it. It might be because we were not good enough or purely due to bad luck. As far as BW is concerned many strugglers are simply glamour struck and try their luck in Bollywood for the wrong reason.
The key to success is to work on your strenghts and overcome your flaws. And yes also walk away when you are beaten. Maybe Jiah wasnt good enough to become an Alist actress. But there are many avenues in life one can achieve success. Like for instance Subhash Ghai came to Bollywood to become an actor but he got rejected and he became a successful director. Ronit Roy started out with a successful film but couldnt work on his initial success. But later he overcame many problems including alchoholism and became a huge star on TV.
When many doors were closing for Jiah she should have explored other options instead of giving up.

I think one must be balanced when it comes to accepting success and failures in their lives. Like the famous saying goes "Never let success get in to your head or Let failure get to your heart". This is not just applicable for Bollywood but generally even in one's own personal/professional life.
