Does Bollywood give more credit to the 'hero' than is due?

The Bollywood 'Hero' has always been a larger-than-life figure. The Bollywood 'Hero' is strong, chivalrous, dutiful, a terrific lover and a great human being. Perhaps this is the reason why the common man in India adores him to death.

Normally in Bollywood, when a movie becomes a hit, the 'hero' becomes a Star. All others, including the heroine, the director, musicians, the ensemble cast, come only next to the hero. If you are wondering if this post is behind its time, the answer would be no..It is very much prevalent today too.

The recently released 'Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani' shot up Ranbir Kapoor's stand in the industry. There was talk about him leveling the three Khans who have had a highly successful stint in the Bollywood industry. However, did it do the same to Deepika, Kalki, and Aditya's careers? Ayan Mukherji perhaps did get a lot of credit but is it anywhere near what Ranbir got? I don't think so...

What then, needs to change so that everyone gets their due credit? Is it even possible? What are your thoughts on this?

Absolutely. The film's entire success is unfairly credited to the hero's efforts, when it the entire team that makes a film work. That is changing slowly though, especially with story/character oriented films.

Usually the 'actor' is the star of most movies. The actress is a mere supporter. I've noticed that. Bollywood is very sexist. Mere fact. :/ Unless its a woman oriented film, the actor usually gets the most credit.

one of the reason is bad scripts. coz sridevi was HERO in EV. kareena in chameli, tabu in chandani bar. konkona was equally or even more appreciated than rahul bose in mr. & mrs. iyer. udaan had no big starcast. yet the director n the movie got their due acclaim. peepli live was a small budget movie. yet the producers made profit.

TBH Deepika should get credit for YJHD's success too. If not for a sexy heroine the film wouldnt have done so well. Same goes for ETT. Katrina's contribution to the opening cant be ignored.
