I always thought that her father was Indian. But looking up both her parents are French settled in India. I like her presence in Bollywood. She indeed has a good niche. Bechara Tom Alter was always some phirangi villain type.

Racial minorities are so rare in India, that they barely get good representation in movies.

deepika was never really a wooden plank, she was always a good actor, some roles were not too great (like housefull) but you could still watch her (unlike some other actresses) and she stood out more in cocktail and definitely in yjhd

Deepika is actually a really good actress, her problem is her dialogue delivery. She has a very mono-tone voice, and she cant really verbally express herself.
It has drastically improved from before, but that's what I noticed. If you look at her face, eyes, body language, she is always spot-on. Her problem is that voice, theres no life in it.

i agree with this...

i didnt like deepika earlier...i did think she was wooden, but over the years she has improved her acting...however that voice and her delivery of dialogues kills for it me...shes horrible at it...hopefully overtime that improves too like her acting did...

Expressions and body language has improved whereas dialogue delivery and voice modulation still sucks.
Since she does have expressions on her face I wont call her a wooden plank

She was never a great actress, but neither bad too. somewhat passable. She constantly tried to re-invent herself and the efforts showed up in break ke baad.. where I really liked her..Ithen love aaj kal .. her cocktail performance was overrated but I loved her again in yjhd.
she was never a wooden plank.
