But how come it became an all time blockbuster?!
It had a pathetic, regressive story, a poorly cooked khichdi of Pyar Jhukta Nahin and Jab Jab Phool Khiley, everyone in that film was loud, hamming, caricaturish and OTT (even supporting cast!). And wasn't kissing a no no in mainstream cinema back then? Didn't family audience avoid watching films with explicit kissing scenes? (This one had the longest for that time)
How come it became such a huge hit? I mean hit or superhit or even blockbuster is okay (given factors like music or heroine) but ATBB? Seriously? It's also one of top 10 longest running films in history of Bollywood!
How did it achieve this despite such a pathetic quality? No big banner or respected director?
Was music alone enough back then?
This film has aged badly. Now only remembered for kissing scene. Aamir himself does not talk about it much (even when recalling his past films). Lolo gets mentioned for other films more than this and whenever this is brought up she is talked of about her makeover than anything else.
How did both leads get best actor and best actress awards for this epic hamming?
(I am not ranting, I am just curious to know how the hell did this film become an All time blockbuster! Both its leads have far better films than this in their filmography in 90s, this was surely not their best!)
