I
LOVED the scene under the tent - it was such a quiet yet communicative scene all together. Bani was so unabashed in her stares at Sohum, almost like she was trying to communicate to him the turmoil she's been going through (because she doesn't know that he over heard her at the Gurdwara) - and doing so OPENLY now that she has no reason to hold herself back. It's like once the rishta was pakka, she lifted some self enforced restraint from herself and now she can ALLOW herself to feel what she really does because she knows that just her feelings WON'T change anything or mess with her mother's dream. Whereas before, she never even entertained the idea (partly because she didn't know him that well either - she's learned more about him during this fiasco and the more she learns, the more she likes him) lest she actually fell for someone and then messed up her mother's dream. I LOVE this Bani - the one she is with Sohum. The one who isn't stealing glances or being ignorant but accepting and embracing what she feels. And she's started including Sohum more and more in her reactions - kuch bhi ho and she looks at Sohum.. For confirmation, affirmation or just out of concern for him or to share her own fear/worry/plight.
But I digress.. Lol.. Coming back to the scene and Bani's unabashed non-verbal communication with Sohum.
And while Bani was totally giving into what she felt at that moment, Sohum was going through a tug of war between his instinct to give into Bani's presence and the fact that he now intends to get her wedding planned and orchestrated without any ulterior motive (like wanting her for himself).
It was NOT a cliche'd eye lock and I loved it. It was not a "romantic" scene. It was an expressive and very EARNEST scene to me. Two people who have never actually spoken the words, communicating all they feel by all they do and by the way they look at each other.
Which is where the song lyrics tie in perfectly:
Pavain muh kuch na bol, pavain naina na mila,
Ay ishq hai is di chupni nahi dastaan. Seriously, one of my favorite Sohum-Bani scenes. Followed by the Sohum-Bani scene at the neher in the first week of the show.
And about Bani holding Sohum, I think she just tripped (I had to rewind 10 times during lunch to figure that out.. 😆) but once she did hold him, it was a very holding-on-for-dear-life grip.. Like she didn't care, she was home. Until Sohum fidgeted and then she broke her trance too.
