We're not allowed to feel human: Arjun Kapoor
- As Aurangzeb releases today, actor Arjun Kapoor talks about his profession where media scrutiny is a constant. While actors learn to deal with it, being a celebrity comes with its own price and Arjun wishes that sometimes things would just be a little simpler.
"We're reduced to commodities rather than just being looked at as artists and as actors. And that's the unfortunate part. It exists in today's day and age but it did not exist 20-30 years back. That's why you had a Rajesh Khanna, Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan, because they were larger than life characters. There's too much focus on where we ate food or where we saw films, what shoes we've worn or if our dog is unwell. People are more interested in what we are doing instead of focusing on our work. Ranbir is a big example. He's put through allthe media scrutiny yet people go and watch his films and love him", says Arjun.
While he has no regrets with the price one has to pay to be a part of this profession, he does feel things can be slightly altered if not changed. "We are very accessible to everybody and we do not have that perception so we need to work harder, to make sure we create that perception for ourselves. You want maximum number of people to be like you or watch your films and that's the idea of making a film. You should have aspiration and inspirational roles being played out so people enjoy watching that on screen. It's little tougher because we are everywhere, whether we want it or not. It's part and parcel of our profession but I'm nobody to judge and decide whether it's good or bad. But we are human beings who are not allowed to feel human. That's the only problem that comes with his profession. Sometimes your personal space is invaded a bit too much. Like when my mom passed away, the media was there to take pictures. I know they were doing their job and my dad is a big producer. I just had to grieve on my own. It's only in moments like these that I wish life was a little simpler".
