Like father like son
Varun says he's learning from his father on the sets of 'Aek Chabhi...'
The new serial 'Aek Chabhi Hai Padoss Mein' (Star Plus) has the father-son duo of Varun and V.M. Badola sharing screen-space for the first time. Badola Sr has been a part of films like 'Swades' and 'Munnabhai MBBS' and will now be seen in 'Jodha-Akbar'. V.M says, "It's great that I am getting to act with my son but once the camera starts rolling, it's just two actors working together."
Varun echoes the same sentiment saying, "That's true; we transcend our relation once we start acting but at one level it's good that we are father and son because we play a similar relation in the serial, though, I don't play his real son. Also, with this opportunity, I get to learn a lot just by watching him perform. Besides, my father is my best teacher and my worst critic!"
Saying that he sees a lot of potential in Varun as a film actor, V.M opines, "Till now, Varun has played only romantic roles on television. But he has far more untapped potential, especially the kind to do emotional and serious roles, which I think should help him create a niche in films."
However, Varun feels he still has a long way to go before he can think of films. "I do believe that the medium is secondary. Even on television, one gets to perform such a variety of roles, that as an actor, I am very satisfied." However, that does not mean that Varun has become complacent. "Look, my father had to pass off so many opportunities because his priority was his family in Delhi. By God's grace and my parents' support, I have no such dilemma. So, I am certainly not going to be complacent.
But yes, the role will always be of primary importance to me; then be it on TV or in films" he says signing off.
