Abhiara’s Marriage

Chapter Forty-Two – The Breakdown
I stood frozen in spot as Adi ran towards RK who sat on the ground in tears. His eyes were puffy and red as he looked up at his brother. I heard him sobbing and it was almost as though he didn't even notice I stood there as he began speaking.
"Ad…Adi…I…I screwed up…I lost her…I lost everything..."
Adi bent and I watched as the brothers embraced each other for the first time in front of me in years. I didn't want to come in between them. I couldn't believe I was doing such a thing. How could I have said yes to Adi? How could I have done that to RK?
"RK…shh, nothing's ruined. You haven't lost anything."
RK continued to sob into Adi's shoulder. I stepped back and watched as Adi glanced back at me.
"You haven't lost anything."
He repeated himself as I quickly turned and ran out of the room. I couldn't hold in my tears after seeing RK in that condition. I covered my mouth to avoid the brothers from hearing my cries in the hallway. I leaned against the wall and wrapped my arm around my stomach as it began to ache at my constant sobs. It wasn't until that moment that I realized what a mistake I had made by accepting to marry Adi. I couldn't back out of that now either though…or else I'd break Adi's heart.
I remained in the hall for a few minutes when I heard someone leave my room. I looked to my left to see Adi closing my room door behind himself. He looked at me and began walking towards me as I straightened myself out and wiped away my tears.
"He's asleep. You can sleep in RK's room tonight."
"How is he…"
"By morning he'll be alright. He had drank, so…"
"Y…you wanted to talk to me Adi?"
"Not here."
He walked past me and I followed him into RK's room, which was a complete disaster. I looked around the room at the smashed furniture on the ground. Adi turned to look at me apologetically.
"It's fine…I'll sleep here Adi…"
"I'd offer you my room but I have to get some work done before leaving."
"Leaving?"
"I have to go promote our clothing line. I'll be gone for a week. I was just contemplating staying while looking at both of your conditions…but our company can't afford that…I'm sorry."
"Oh…no…it's okay Adi."
"There's another thing."
"Oh?"
"The day I come back is the day of our wedding."
I stood stunned instantly. I felt my face go white.
"I'll be mailing you the details daily Madhu."
"O…One…week…?"
"I had planned this a while ago…I had a feeling you would say yes to me."
A wedding within a week? I felt like I didn't even have enough time to process everything. I had been confessed to and proposed to within seconds, and was now getting married within a week. I needed more time for me to take it all in.
"I'll have Neha give you the mail daily."
"Wait…you're leaving me alone with RK for a week?"
"Yes. Is there a probl…"
"No. No…"
"I'm sorry Madhu. I'm sorry today wasn't how you had probably dreamt your wedding proposal would be like someday."
He wasn't wrong in that aspect. Even the guy I had dreamt the proposal to be from was different. I put on a fake smile.
"It's alright Adi."
"Well, I leave tomorrow morning…so I guess I'll see you at the altar the next time I see you."
My heart began to race as I became nervous at just the thought of that. I felt him place a hand on the side of my face and I instantly looked back up at him.
"Good-bye Madhu."
"Bye Adi…have a safe trip tomorrow. I'll see you in a week."
"I should really go end that party downstairs, who knows what they've done while the hosts went missing."
I laughed, a fake laugh.
He smiled and turned to leave. I watched him walk away but then he stopped in his steps and turned to stare at me.
"Madhu?"
"Yeah…?"
"You're happy right?"
No.
"Of course Adi."
I watched him chuckle and shake his head slightly.
"You can lie to the world, but not to the Kundra brothers. Thank you for doing this for me. I promise I WILL give you all the happiness in the world."
He smiled, an odd smile, and then before I could say anything he turned and closed the door while walking away.
