Part I
The doors closed behind him gently, quite in contrast to the havoc created by the wind outside, hell bent on unleashing it's might on the small, sleepy village of Talsagara, depicting the conflict that was playing mayhem in his mind. With wobbling feet he tried to find his way to his bed. Alas! It was proving as difficult as closing his mind to those internal turmoil and confusions. He had tried his best. His friends had said it was the best remedy to forget anything and everything, then why…why did he feel guilty trying to forget things, even for a while, why was his soul making him repent what he had said to Gulaal downstairs just a few moments ago…..
"Mujhe tere sahare ki jarurat nahi hai……",with those words he had wanted to make it clear to her that he did not need her anymore then why did his heart still desire for her to walk through those doors, holding him, guiding him to his bed, relieving him of those sufferings that he had been enduring for the past 10 years. Why did he still believe that whatever she would say to relieve him of his conflicting thoughts will be gospel to him.She had lost that trust 10 years ago hasn't she? She had broken that promise of being each other's kavach. She had sided with Dushyant to hide a terrible secret from HIM.How can he ever forgive her for what she had done? No…she was not the Gulaal he knew…She was not the Gulaal his Vasant Bha fell in love with…She had changed….but why? What made her do it? And why couldn't she confide in HIM, her Kesar…why?
He was almost there, he could feel it, He was just going to fling himself on the bed.He was sure that once he could sleep, he would get answers to the questions that tormented him.He knew he would.Just then he let out a big sigh realizing the futility of his actions.Who was he kidding?Wasn't he trying to do the same every single night for the last 10 years…was he near the truth anymore now than before?
He collided with the bedside table and the photo frame on the top of the table almost toppled to the ground when he managed to catch the same with trembling hands. He immediately closed his eyes as the smiling face of his Vasant Bha came into focus hazily. He knew he wouldn't be able to look him in the eye today. Still with eyes closed he started caressing the picture, slowly allowing himself to ease on the bed with both arms outstretched and photo frame lying on his bosom……
"Kesuda, arrey o Kesuda, ruk ja…kabse aawaj de raha hu sunai nahi deta……Janta hu tune kuch galat kiya hai…teri aankhein padh sakta hu main…ruk ja…nahi toh…aaj toh….", Vasant had shouted at the top of his voice reclining on a tree nearby breathing heavily.
He knew he was in trouble today. He had crossed all his limits in his quest to be one up on his friends. He had accepted a challenge to not only steal afeem balls from Dushyant Bha's room after being repeatedly snubbed and warned by Dushyant not to come near it, but he also tasted a few by popping them straight into his mouth when Vasant had caught him and he had run as fast as he could dropping the entire bottle on the ground….
He was ignoring his Vasant Bha's repeated shouts to stop.He knew all he had to do was reach the taalab and take a plunge. He still had those afeem balls in his mouth. He had not swallowed it as it tasted really bitter. All he had to do was spit it in the talab and act in front of his Vasant Bha that he never did put those in his mouth. This way he might not have to pay a very heavy price for his mischief……
He was almost there. He could hear the sweet music of the flowing water, chirping of the birds near by.He managed a small smile, readying himself for the plunge…his head but would have collided on a hard surface below if Vasant had not put his hand just in time to hold his head before he passed out imagining the soft caress of deep water……..
