Interview : 'I'm very happy to work again'
Your heart must be going dhak- dhak as the ek-do-teen girl, the ever-ravishing Madhuri Dixit gets ready to make her second comeback to Bollywood. She was in top position following her success in 'Devdas' when she decided to bid adieu to films and concentrate on her domestic life. But her passion for acting brings her in front of the camera again as she announces her comeback. She'll make the comeback with a Yashraj Films, which will be releasing in 2007. As you wait to catch a glimpse of her, here's an exclusive interview with Madhuri about her comeback and films.
Excerpts from the Interview:
We all are very happy about your return.
Thanks! I'm truly excited about it too and getting the chance to work in a Yashraj Films' project in my comeback film. The film has a bit of everything and I hope people and my fans would like to see me back in this film. I wouldn't say it to be a comeback of sorts as I had just taken a break for my family. I wasn't desperate but I wanted to work. Acting has become inbred in me and so I'm very happy to work again. I just want to enjoy the feeling of facing the camera. I would like to do comedy and all kinds of films.
Can you tell us something about the film?
It is directed by cinematographer Anil Mehta. I was very excited when I heard the script. I felt that this is the right film to make comeback with. The story has been written in quite an interesting manner and that grilled me. Also I've been associated with the Yashraj films banner before and have done films for them. So everything was working fine and there was no reason to delay the project further. With Yashraj films I knew I'm in safe hands as they always consider and understand the factors involved with married actresses. He is sensitive to the schedules of an actor who is a wife and mother. So I'm very comfortable working with them. The film will begin from January 2007 and will be completed in 3-4 months time.
Did you miss films all these years?
I didn't miss the glamour related to films, but I surely missed the camera and the characters. But these five years has also been rewarding as I always wanted children and a family and in the meantime I could accomplish my dream. I enjoyed that phase. But now my kids are growing up and so I would like to take a little time out for me too.
How did your family react to your decision to join films?
My husband has been very supportive in my decisions every time and he feels that there should be no regrets at the end of the day. When I decided to plunge into family and quit work or while doing 'Devdas' and even now, he is always there with me.
How are you going to balance your career and home?
I'm anxious about balancing my career with caring for my young sons. The shooting for the new movie will begin early next year. But I plan to do only one film in a year, or may be a film in two years or two films in a year, depending on my schedule. There are women all over the world who are managing family and career at the same time. My children are very important to me, but as they grow they should learn to be independent. Also this will be a chance for them to get back to their roots and bond with their cousins here. My kids are 4 and 1 year old so I can't leave them in US. They are here with me now.
Have you signed any more films other than this?
I just want to do this film now and see if the audience accepts me warmly. Only after I gather confidence from this film I'll decide about how to proceed. I know Anil Mehta's capability as a cinematographer. I'm hopeful that he will be a good director as well.
