Yup I did mention in my main post at the end as well, that the only important thing in the end is the Nikaah. As long as that is done, the wedding is complete. The rest of the stuff is just added in from Indian culture I suppose, so I guess the show will follow a few of those stuff, like they've decided to show the jash e saughat (: Anyway was just sharing stuff from my weak recollection of my sister's wedding haha so I apologize if I've made mistakes.

Thank-you I do hope so. The line between culture and religion gets blurred easily.
Yay! Another R.com fan? The show will never get old for me. Nice to meet you fellow fan of the best Indian show ever (in my eyes lol).

Thought I'd enlighten you all on HAQ MEHR, since some of you don't know. Its a certain amount of money the groom fixes for the bride, so that, incase, God forbid, when they're divorcing, it is obligatory for him to give her that money since its her right.

The only thing that is absolutely compulsory in a Muslim wedding is a Nikaah, even the Walima is regarded as only Sunnah - which means it is prefered if there is a Walima, but it has no impact on the validity of the marriage.

Once the Nikaah happens it means you're married.

Most of the other things are simply traditions created by culture.
Also I think many of the things are done without it being regarded as a separate occasion to the wedding i.e. everyone usually says goodbye to the bride, but not all people give it the name Ruksati because it is just a natural progression from the wedding ceremony that the bride will be going to another house.

In a Bangladeshi Muslim wedding, the main things that happen are a Mehendi/Haldi ceremony, the Wedding Ceremony/Nikaah, and then the Walima.

In my family we don't really do a Haldi ceremony it's more of a simple Mehendi ceremony, and guests just feed the bride/groom some fruit and mishti's and vice versa.
