Happy Birthday
Kumud came out of the room quietely not wanting to make any noise, or make Kumari busted. She was so nervous thinking where Kumari would go in the middle of the night and that also so secretively. 'Squeak' she heard the opening of the door to the terrace. What might be going over there, she thought. She is going to find out by herself and she won't spare Kumari this time. Holding her skirt with both her hands she headed towards the terrace, slowly. Carefully, Kumud opened the door and peeped through it and hurried herself on the steps. Before she could walk along the side ways, her eyes caught a glimpse of light coming besides the trees.
'Hurry up!' She recognized the voice of Sunny from so far and wondered what might Kumari and him be doing there. She secretly moved behind the trees and saw Saras lighting candles, one by one carefully with his hands. A wow escaped from her mouth and she covered her mouth with her hand as she might be heard. 'Ok, done! Thanks guys' Saras smiled at them and Sunny and Kumari slowly approached towards the stairways. Kumud made herself into a sitting position and hid herself behind a large flower pot there, as Kumud and Sunny passed her. With a sigh she then got herself up and tip-toed towards the light.
'Saras? Where has he gone now?' She muttered, wondering where Saras would be as she found him nowhere. She looked at the beautiful candles, all shining and dancing together wishing her happy birthday and making her day so special. Now she could forgive Saras for not wishing her before, he has done so much for her now. With a smiled she knelt down near the candles decorated with a 'Happy Birthday Kumud' and wiped off a tear drop that fell from her eyes.
'Happy Birthday Kumud' thrilled with his voice just behind her ears, Kumud gathered herself into a standing position. 'Happy Birthday' Saras said again, giving her the gift he brought for her. She said 'thanks' holding the gift wrapped in purple. He said, 'Open it and see if you like it or not' insisting her to open the gift. She opened the gift slowly and to her surprised she found a beautiful necklace with a heart pendant. 'Beautiful! But what is the used such a gift?' She questioned him while appreciating his gift. 'Shh. Not even a word' Saras hushed her by putting his finger on her lips.
Saras took the necklace from her and turned her to the other side as he tried to put it around her neck. He moved her long, silky hair aside inhaling her sweet scent deeply. His fingers trembled as he tried to connect the joint, while still fixing his gaze at her bare shoulder. He gulped eagerly wanting to touch her and feel her all by himself. Unintentionally he lowered his head as he finally connected the joint of the necklace and pressed his lips on her shoulders. Kumud felt the chills running all over her body, melting her from within, by his touch. She tilted her head to her right encouraging and enjoying the new feeling.
'Ehem ehem' Kumari cleared her throat, bringing Saras and Kumud back to their senses, while showing the cake. Kumud lowered her gaze shyly and bit her lips, as Saras took the cake and kept it near the candles. 'Time to cut the cake' saras exclaimed, handing the knife to Kumud, who was still blushing and held her hand as she sat besides the cake.
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear Kumud
Happy Birthday to you
Saras and Kumari clapped their hands together after singing the happy birthday song and cheered as Kumud cut her birthday cake. She offered a piece of cake to Kumari, who took it and ran towards the stairways, telling them to enjoy eating the cake. Kumud offered a piece of cake to Saras, who obediently ate it in one gulp and took hold of her hand immediately. Kumud asked 'Now what?' He smiled, pointing at the chocolate cream covering her fingers, lifting her hand to his mouth. Slowly, one finger after the other, Saras sucked the chocolate cream on her fingers, still looking at the blushing Kumud.
Mean while, Guman, who followed Kumari upstairs, turned around and went downstairs, fumed in anger.
