The room got burnt and everything in it as well, including Shiv's precious portrait, I suppose. So, what happens now?

Does it mean that the pic is no longer important to Shiv? Notice the fact that Shiv was intent on saving only Gauri. He'd forgotten all abt the picture. I think that is highly significant.

I think it means dreams no longer have a place in his life. Reality matters more now....in other words, Gauri matters more to him than the memory of a girl whom he hasn't even met.

What do u ppl think?

yeah, that's what i thought too....but i don't think that was really the case.....the main 'reason' for all the fire thing was to make shiv blurt out the truth, not to prove his luv for gauri....besides, the camera didn't focus on the picture at all, which usually means that this was not what they were going for.....if it was a gauri versus portrait thing, they would have showed like a countdown between gauri's condition for shiv, and then images of the portrait on the wall, burning....all this dilemma goin in shiv's head and infront of his eyes, u know....but the thing is, they DIDN'T show all this, so i don't think they are concentrating on that scenario for a while.....but i do wish this had been a case as well...that would have been an additional treat for us. ;)
