Chehre pe chehra: SRK and Big B share a light moment in KANK, but the truth tells a different story Sources in the industry affirm that the cold war between Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan has intensified after Khan snatched Kaun Banega Crorepati 3 right from under the Big B's nose. The battle lines have been quietly but irrevocably drawn. Even their cliques are now clearly defined. Icy vibes If Amitabh Bachchan has firmly aligned himself with Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and Anil Ambani, Shah Rukh makes his political and social affiliations equally evident by hobnobbing with Sonia Gandhi and her family and attending Nita Mukesh Ambani's birthday party. The tension between the two sides has been cleverly concealed until now, but the cracks were obvious at Sikander Kher's (Anupam and Kirron Kher's son) birthday party last month. The vibes between the Bachchan clan (represented by Jaya, Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai) and Shah Rukh Khan were I-C-Y. Reveals a source present at the do, "The party was in full swing until SRK walked in at 2 am. He went up to Mr Bachchan and greeted him. Mr Bachchan is always polite, so he greeted SRK cordially. But the rest of the Bachchan parivar looked through him. Even though Jayaji is very fond of Shah Rukh, none of them can overlook what he's been doing to Mr Bachchan." 'Ash'es to dust The source adds that the Bachchans, along with Ash and a few friends, were seated at one table and Shah Rukh took the table directly opposite them. "After greeting each other and exchanging formal hellos, it was evident that Bachchan and Khan wanted to their own space. Throughout the night, not a single word was exchanged between the camps. In fact, SRK wanted to strike up a conversation with Ash but since she was stuck to Abhishek's side, it became impossible." It may be recalled that Aishwarya still has to forgive Shah Rukh for unceremoniously ousting her from his home production, Chalte Chalte, replacing her with Rani Mukerji. SRK reportedly showed her the door after her then boyfriend Salman Khan wreaked havoc on the sets. And now with SRK's doing KBC3 — which was AB's property until now — Khan has made matters worse. It is learnt that Amitabh is quite miffed with Star and their attitude during his illness. A source says, "Mr Bachchan was literally told to come back to work after his illness and shoot some episodes. He put his foot down and refused. Things started going downhill from that point onwards." SRK's announcement hasn't come as a surprise to anyone. An insider reveals, "Samir Nair has been wanting to get Shah Rukh onboard for quite some time. This reached Amitabh's ears even before a formal announcement was made." Putting up an act Says a source known to the Bachchans, "All this talk about Mr Bachchan not being interested in doing KBC3 is hogwash. He had almost committed to doing it when SRK lobbied hard and pipped him to the post. He's deeply hurt at the way SRK has gone about the whole thing but prefers not to talk about it." As has always been the case, the hostilities will remain shrouded behind a wall of fake civility from both sides. The warring factions continue to deny problems and address each other respectfully in public. A filmmaker on the condition of anonymity says, "There is definitely a war brewing between SRK and the Bachchans, but no star, producer or director likes to wash their dirty linen in public. When there is a problem, they will sort it out between themselves." Neither Amitabh Bachchan nor Sameer Nair of Star returned our SMSes to comment on the story.

IMO,I feel SRK's is a wise move...HE's aging,and needs to look out for other alternatives,and when the pay is good,why not take it up....I'm not an SRK fan to begin with,but I still feel he would make a good host,as he's a very intelligent fellow and very very witty....👏

AB's indignation is justified though!!

It does not matter whether you are rich or poor, it all ends with jelousy, bickering, and BIG ego's.That is really sad.

if amitabh bachan had refused to do the show then why the hell he would be jealous for srk taking the show ok for intense srk would refuse to the show for the sake of some "bachan ego" then star tv will approach some other actor. i think SRk has made right decsion and i don't think bachans have prob with it.

U r 10000000000000% rite ...Srk hasn't snathced KBC from Bachaan ..the offer has come to him ..so y shud he refuse..it's his chance ...am sure he will do well 👏

Well interesting. 😉 One always knew about the cold vibes but it is now coming out more and more in the open. There was an article suggesting that SRK actually lobbied to get this show through Sharad Pawar. Because Amitabh Bachchan is not in the good books with Congress and their affiliates, SRK has been cashing on this animosity. Agreed wthat since SRK looks decrepit, old and dillapidated, this is a wise move on his part to host some TV shows as the younger stars like Hritik and Abhishekh are "stealing his thunder in movies". Never mind if the assignment comes by hook or crook. the latter part has already been demonstrated in his last venture Don. Thanks to the negative publicity the movie just about made to a semi-hit, above average status only and not a super hit.

I would say that AB has his future secure as he is too big a person and actor, but it is SRK who should be looking out for his survival in movies. the first two positions have already been taken by Hritik and Amir, with Akshay and SRK closely competing for the third. Next year we might see Abhishekh going notches above.

SRK is certainly not bigger than Big B at any stage and any cost. He does not have the versatilty, flamboyance and multi-dimension to his abilites and personality. There have been umpteen debates on this subject on national and interantional forums and the unanimous conclusion is that Big B is ahead by leap years from SRK.

As far as Hritik and the year 2000 is concerned it was a different story then and it is a different story now. He signed some atrociously horrible movies but ever since his ressurection with Koi Mil Gaya he has proven his skill and range as an actor. He was astrounding in Lakshya even though the movie failed becasue of a loose script and direction. But Hritik won a lot of acclaim for his performance.

His performance in Krissh and D2 have rewritten box office history. D2 is solely Hritik venture. He is very selective now in taking up ventures. Hence the same mistake which he commited post KNPH will not be there. As far as SRK vs Hritik is concerned, SRK is down to No. 3 this year and will be going further and further down. Audience wants to see freshness in face, acting and also a certain flamboyance. SRK lacks in the energy, fitness and physical appaerance to sustain that kind of popularity in India. D2 has again proven that SRK is also not a solo king in overseas market which largely also comprises of Pakistanis, Residents of Middle Eastern countries and NRIs. The gaps is being largely bridged. D2 is the 2nd highest first week grosser in the overseas market.

Regarding cold war between SRK and AB is concerened there are slew of articles since the past 2-3 years statign this (you have to dig it out from internet andread them). Often than not these rumours do turn out to be the truth. The way media gunned SRK down for Don is also partly an evidence of the fact that the war is out in the open and people are taking their respective stance. Gift and all is a very diplomatic way of shying away from the rumours. It means nothing more or less. So reading too much into that is also too simplistic.

What do u mean by the sayings in 1st paragraph 'that pakistanis n residents of middle east n NRI 'are the only SRK fans .. The indians favoured whom? only the bachans n roshan ..what r u trying to make me understand ?

What's wrong if SRK has accept KBC for his survival ? didnt u know that Big B also has accept KBC to save his studio ABLTd which was going bankrupted ...

I said that SRK will find it difficult to sustain his popularity in India becasue of his age, looks and lack of acting variety. There is no doubt that he is down to No. 3 this year and is a fact that Hritik is No. 1 or 2 and is definitely ahead of SRK in poupluarity in India at least. No one of course can touch Big B as no one can touch Lata Mangeshkar. They are insurmountable. SRK has cashed a lot on his poupluarity in the overseas market becasue of the diverse range of people who watch his movies but the gap as evident is already getting bridged. See the opening collection of D2, LRMB, Fanna, Bluffmaster and RDB viz SRK's movies. D2 is ahead of Don and his other movies. D2 is all time No. 2 in overseas markets. No. 1 is KANK but SRK standalone cannot take credit for that coz it was a huge multistarrer and a KJo movie on top of that.
