Prologue

He rolled his jeans up and walked to end of the shore as he watched mesmerized by the dark and lonely ocean. It was quiet except for the soft waves that crashed against his feet. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, the smell of the salty water, the gritty sand, cool water under his feet, the low screeches of the gulls, and the light breeze of the night all left a calm, peaceful feeling in his heart. Slowly opening his eyes he watched the still water surface glistened by the moonlight for a while before walking along the shore.

Nights and days are the same for Arjun Rawte but this was the only time that the raw feeling in the middle of his stomach would fade slightly. He walked to the huge rock that housed him every night and sat down leaning against it. A slight smile formed on Arjun's lips as he looked up at the star studded sky.

A whining tone started playing in his ears.

"What crap? Aisi baatein sirf movies main karte hain Roshni..."

"Haan Arjun lekin sunne main accha hain na? Just imagine if every star up there is a loved one watching over us..."

Arjun sighed as he held her waist and pulled her closer.

"Kiss duniya main ho tum? What you see is nothing but rocks, gases and dust hundreds, thousands of light years away from us!!"

Roshni rolled her eyes, "Tum kabhi nahi sudroge Arjun Suryakanth Rawte. Jab bhi tum stars ko dekh teh ho toh yeh soch the ho ki who rocks aur dust hain?"

"Soch tha tha...jab se tum mili ho, duniya kuch alag si dikh rahi hain" Arjun said with a sweet smile, touching his forehead with Roshni's.

Roshni smiled at his loving gesture and hugged him. She looked at the stars above and silently thanked them for her life, for her Arjun.

Arjun came out of his trance and the smile seized. He looked around at the dark surroundings, the heaviness descending back into his heart.

Yeh baaki zindagi tumhare bina kaise jeeloon Roshni?

He let his head rest against the rock and closed his eyes. This has been Arjun's routine for the last two years, he'd spend the whole night at the rock on the beach in Roshni's memories. He'd let sadness consume him completely for those few hours and then in the morning he's back to being ACP Rawte, ruthless and cut out from emotions. For two years this place has been his den, alone and hopeless he'd sit there in silence...letting the merciless grief take him.

But tonight things are about to change. Tonight, Arjun is not the only person with grief enough to consume oneself. Tonight he is not the only person at the rock, at his den.

Tonight he's going to meet a stranger.
