What if the tables were turned?

Hi guys!

At the outset let me say that this is not a bashing post nor do I belong to any camp.

I just am a routine viewer and of late a certain question has occurred to me that I just wanted to pose before the members of this forum and I am asking for a frank answer.

It is a test of us as a society of how impartial and unbiased we are.

Q: If perchance we had a woman in place of RK, would her actions be acceptable?

A woman in the position of power behaving badly?

Forcing a man to toe her line?

Humiliating him in public?

Kidnapping him?

Chaining him against his will?

Then declaring that it was all for love?

Would we be defending her as intently?

My guess is no--she would be labelled as a Vamp or a Maneater, a trashy woman, someone who one as an individual and society should abhor and reject.

But I would like others to weigh in too.

Thanks!

If they have a similar story behind them I would,.its not about a man or a woman here.. Its about two people with a complicated story..
It's just shows like tat won't go well with TRP audience.. But I don't mind seeing that.. Why do we bring up the man/woman topic? I have never seen RK telling her tat he s doing this because he is a woman.. He does come across as a egomaniac, but I don't see a chauvinistic side to his personality..

The chaining to the bed for this amt of time will actually be more acceptable, if it was a woman.. But the 5 slaps to woman would have raised more eyebrows..
And yes, a man is physically stronger so the kidnapping scenario might not be easy to pull off..humiliating in the public would be tough as TRP audience won't like a tolerant male.. But I will totally be up fr it..and see it as a positive change..

I have been thinking along these lines. There needs to be a show along these lines. At least there should be a show where the heroine is a successful rude businesswoman with a dark past and the hero is a simple guy who gets a job in her office and is routinely insulted. Yep, in these scenarios the girl is usually called the vamp, in fact I can vaguely remember a Star Plus show like that. I'm tired of these stereotypes.
@Cardio21- I think what the TM means is not that RK is a chauvinist -RK is entirely what the CVs make him and I'm beginning to think the CVs are not only chauvinists but also medieval. What she(I'm assuming you're a girl, dear?) is asking is this- since majority girls in this forum find RK's acts so romantic, would they react in the same manner if it was the woman who was behaving in such a sadist manner, and like you said- they wouldn't, TRPs would fall.
Also, heroes have slapped girls on screen now and then- it is considered to be good for the girl- there was one spoilt brat Arman slapped in the Jassi show (not the heroine), also- what was the film where Kajol played twin sisters with Rishi and Rati as the estranged parents? Yeah, Rishi Kapoor slapped Rati Agnihotri there and she said "Kash yeh thappad tumne pehle mara hota" or something like that...so I don't think the slaps would be a problem. But yeah, I got a bit bored with Madhu's slaps after the last time. When he had chained her up I was in fact itching for a good solid punch (I prefer books over their movie adaptations, but I loved how Hermione punched Draco instead of slapping him in the third film. Yay!) but the CVs had to make her all submissive.*sigh*
Is continuity of characters too much of a thing to expect in Indain serials?

can't say it was ever really a woman/man issue with RK, it's more of an ego issue with him; he acts not because she's a woman and he's a man but because he's successful and takes great pride in his selfmade status. of course if you watch the show now when his fame and career aren't as stressed upon as in the initial days of meiej it's easy to assume all his behavior away as male chauvinism; but watch him pre-revenge and it's evident most of his personality problems stem from the fact that he's a self glorified egomaniac.

but yeah can't say if the Indian demographic would be to accepting of what you're suggesting although I've seen a lot of non-hindi shows where that's exactly how the female lead is portrayed and people love it fine. I'm thinking you mean someone along the lines of Blair Waldorf/Lisa Cutty right?

I'm just bringing up a woman in place of the man (RK). A brat woman, a woman drunk with power who does all what RK does, would the society accept her?

Just a thought, nothing else.

Of course such a show would die within a week because the TRP audience would send it to the gallows in an instant.

I would love to see one though. :)

I'm just replacing RK with a woman who replicates his actions.

I don't care if his ego or pride comes from his self made status because there are a lot of people out there who are self made and very successful but are as humble as can be. Its his personality.

I live in America where such shows are doing and would do great.

They won't go well with the larger Indian audience.
