The exchange of positions - SaMud

So finally Saras dikra proved his purity of character to VC's family! 😊

Today's episode had nothing much to offer IMO except a bit of dragging and some romantic scenes (which seemed kind of forced to me).

But I was happy to see Dugba totally softening towards him. She had reposed trust in him when no one else was convinced. And Saras proved her right.

It was touching to see Dugba's and Gun's conversation about Saras and reminiscing about yesterday. Gun ko bhi kehna pada, "Kuch baat toh hai iss ladke mein!"

It is awesome to see that SC team has shown that past is forever relevant and that ties forged, interactions sought and ethics taught and learnt during childhood never go away! It was beautiful to see Gun and Dugba acknowledge that Saras retains the purity and truthfulness of Saraswati in his character.

I am really happy that Saras' struggle and sacrifices paid off, his patience yielded fruit and now everybody acknowledges his virtues.

It was irritating to see that Guman taunt and hurt the already anguished Kumud so much! 😡

What a jealous, rude, insecure, venom-spitting vamp she is! Does not even have sense to talk to a young girl who is old enough to be her daughter? Kumud knows she's been refused by Saras. What was the need to sprinkle salt on her wounds and ache her already cracked heart which she is trying so hard to nurse? 😭

Today Kumud showed she has a child like vulnerability yet also has the self respect of a mature grown up girl. She was hurt but she tried her best to hide it and pushed Saras away from her. I felt very bad for her today.

It was like a chain of hurtful behaviours started by that Guman! She insulted and hurt Kumud. Kumud in her insult and guilt, angrily turned Saras away from her and told him to stay 4 feet away from her at all times!

Or else yesterday's incident would have brought the two closer and softened their stance towards each other!

Poor lovers can't even stay away from each other...keep taking care of each other even if they resolve to remain away or throw each other out of each other's lives!

It's romantic for sure but in a very sad way given how a spectre like Guman keeps haunting their delicate sapling of a relationship!

This serial is showing beautifully how actions and issues of adults done in past keep haunting the kids and keep interfering even in their kids' happiness.

Seeing this sometimes I wish SaMud run away like Raj-Rashmi of QSQT and declare to Guman that they won't inherit the legacy of hate. (I did not recommend a DDLJ or MPK type mission to convince everyone because Guman is too evil to be reformed or softened or convinced to be nice.)

Ah! Wishful thinking! Both are to sanskari and attached maan maryada of family to do something like this.

Nice balance of happy and sad scenes in tonight's episode even though I felt it was kind of a filler episode.

It's somewhat of a reversal in their positions. Saras is finally getting love and attention from the happy environment in Kumud's family and village whereas Kumud is having to face pain as she gets introduced to the cold, unfeeling members of Saras' dysfunctional family and the bruised side of Saras too - who still has not revealed to her why he refused her hand in marriage.

Poor Saras blames himself for causing pain to those he is close to. But someone make him realise it's not his fate rather the adults around him who ruined it for him!

It's sad that when he learns of Kumud's pain caused by Guman he'll probably again blame himself too. 😭

I may add some more things:

I loved Kumud's comeback to Guman when she taunted her. The girl replies back strongly and never lets others see that she's hurt even though she may feel bad later thinking about what others said to her.

Saras saying "Tumhare liye jo main sochta hoon usse kabhi maine tumhare parivar se upar nahin samjha" showed the sheer CLASS and CHARACTER of this man!

Dugba still thinks his refusal to Kumud is just a mistake he will correct soon. Ah! That is the POWER of the SANSKAAR Saras dikra has!!

I loved how she invited Saras to dine with everyone else. The same person who doubted him, invited him to join her family.

It was nice to see Gun express worry for Kumud for she knows how hurt her daughter feels.

The camera focusing on Saras and Kumud's feet as they moved away from each other and the distance between them increased was BRILLIANT symbolism and CLASSY use of visual medium! Kudos and kudos again and again to Team SC for it!! PURE ART!

Saras' purity and understanding reflected yet again as he got up from the dining table just due to the promise he had made to Kumud! He was not angry or bitter about it, rather obeyed her wishes! He was just sad and reluctant but kept it to himself.

Sach! KAHAN MILTE HAIN AISE LADKE AAJ KAL?

Just a few years with his mother had such a profound, lifelong impact on him that he turned so sanskari! Kya baat hai!

Loved the following in your post -

Bringing out the role reversal - superb!

Bringing out the symbolism of them walking away from each other

And I too loved Gun Dukhba convo

ESP gun acknowledging that Saras had the choice to say no and could not be blamed for it

But I did not think it was a filler

Ice between them has to break and their relationship needs to move forward

Before the next crisis , so this was the epi where romance bet ween blossoms and about time too

Loved your analysis !

@Arshicritic

Firstly, I am honored to read your truly CRISP bytes on my posts! Thank you dear!! Made my day! 😳

Yes I agree that it was not entirely a filler episode. After watching it my instant reaction was that it was kind of "filler". Maybe it was because the last two days' episode had a lot more meat than this one. They were so awesome that I ended up finding this episode a tad lacking.

But it doesn't mean it had nothing to offer at all.

Yes, Gun acknowledging Saras' right to make a choice was brilliant! She was not merely pissed off at a guy saying no to her darling daughter rather she respected his right to say NO and only expressed concern for her heartbroken daughter. One wise woman she is!

Maybe you're right. Some ice needs to be broken between the two and some romance might be good to watch for us viewers before the next crisis strikes!

Thanks again!

Loved your post Anu.

Nice point about the role reversal. Hopefully Kumud will get an insight about the kind of life Saras lives and understands some of his apprehensions about marriage then help restore his faith in relations, to overcome his fears and embrace love . Saras can finally enjoy the love and warmth of the Desais.

Just what did them walking away from each other signify? I am not going to be a Debbie downer and think about that right now.

Desi soaps need a villian or vamp to move the story forward. Guman's chaal mostly brings Samud closer and makes their bond stronger even when its not immediately visible on the surface. Their egos, fears, phobias themselves would not allow Samud to let their guard down and come close to each other. So bring on your next chaal Guman.

I agree with Arshi. It was not a filler episode. It was a lighter episode than we are used to watching typically with full on romance. SC uses each episode and scene to build on their story and characters. That is the beauty of this show. Sometimes it takes a few episodes for it to play out though. Per the spoiler, tomorrow Kumud goes to help VC with this new order, gets stuck somehwere and Dikra lands up there to help. There will be a fall out due to that esp with Guman taunting Kumud. If the spoiler is accurate then we get to enjoy more Samud moments and Samud get to bond some more!

Dukhba and Gun share a wonderful relationship, mutual respect and genuine love for each other. They draw strength from each other, support each other and share each other's joys and sorrows, all the Desais actually except for the moti kaki. Their bond is enviable and heartwarming simultaneously. Its an ideal for a joint family setting in India. That is the other thing I like about SC is that these traits come across without being too preachy like the other SP shows.

On a lighter note - our hero throws red rose petals to wake up his princess. That is unique. His smile after mission 'wake up Kumud' was accomplished was so innocent, so precious.

I agree with you. It was just a lighter episode than a filler one.

Yes I hope Kumud gradually realises more about Saras' tough life and now with the role reversal, I hope she comes to know how Guman totally mauled that boy's mindset and family set up right from the time he was a kid. Then, as you rightly said, she'll realise why he refused marriage and why he remains so silent, keeping everything to himself.

I totally agree with you on the relationship that Gun and Dugba share! I was talking to my mom yesterday while watching the show, that it is rare for a bhabhi and nanad to share such a cordial and understanding relationship between each other (they are bhabhi and nanad only no?) and especially if the nanad has had a tumultous married life. It's also great how VC supports Dugba completely and how Dugba enjoys complete respect at her home without getting any taunts or treated like a burden.

I also love it how Dugba herself is so protective about the family and its kids, forever trying to keep them all together instead of retreating to a shell or being bitter the way Yash's mom is (after losing her husband).

That is a refreshingly positive change from what we've been seeing in movies and TV shows till now.

The subtle smile on Saras' face whether while congratulating Kumud at having made up with her father without his help or after having woken her up was to die for!

And as another member noted, the fact that he threw petals of red roses to wake up Kumud were a symbolism of love! 😳

Another thing I want to add, is that (which I felt later), it was deliberate to show Kumud's foot getting injured. Not just did it show some romantic moment between the two but also portayed what a difficult path it was going to be for Kumud (as it was her dream to marry Saras and given the kind of family he has it'd have been one struggle for Kumud to fit in & stay with dignity and peace there).

The camera focusing on their feet was pure ARTISTIC MASTERSTROKE!

They both move away from each other (due to the rift created by Guman at least in yesterday's episode) and while Saras moves slowly and reluctantly, Kumud is limping. Her limping IMO was not just due to the wound. That wound and limping was IMO shown as a symbolism of how it was HARDER for Kumud to move away from Saras! For Saras it was another heartbreak and cruel misfortune handed over to him by fate (which is being influenced by the witch called Guman!).

But for Kumud it was way worse - both as a girl with so many qualities facing rejection and as someone who was totally in love with Saras before she even saw him completely and marriage with him was her dream (as much as it was her father's). It is her first big disappointment and deep emotional pain in life (unlike Saras). So it's tougher for her to move away...hence those wounds, bleeding and limping walk while moving away.

That scene was really effective!! 👏

Awesome post !!! :) The depth and symbolism in this show amazing and you've pointed that out so well with your analysis.

"Another thing I want to add, is that (which I felt later), it was deliberate to show Kumud's foot getting injured. Not just did it show some romantic moment between the two but also portayed what a difficult path it was going to be for Kumud "

I loved the first part of that interaction between SaMud. There he was, with a divine smile on his face, telling her how happy he was for her and the very next minute, felt equal concern and pain upon seeing her get hurt. So subtle yet beautiful!
