On the Sanjay Dutt verdict! | ||||||
Today all eyes have been glued to news channels. Even housewives who normally surf channels for their favourite afternoon saas-bahu sagas are avidly lapping up the live action on the final verdict of the Sanjay Dutt 1993 bomb blasts case. Dutt was charged with the illegal possession of dangerous weapons (AK 56 Arshad Warsi (co-star and friend of Sanjay Dutt): Even during shoots Sanjay used to be stressed and he always wanted to get over with the tension of the impending verdict. I am sure he must be relieved now since it could have been worse. Everyone knows he is not a terrorist, only now it has been lawfully proved. The blow of the verdict has been softened as he is not found guilty of criminal conspiracy. Sandip Sickand (Chief Creative Director, Sony TV): It's great that justice has been meted out. He has only been convicted under possession of arms and finally the tag of being a traitor, anti-national and a terrorist has been removed. I support the judicial system's take on that. Sunil Dutt must be smiling up there. After all that Sanjay has gone through, it is a relief and he can sleep peacefully. Sanjay is not part of any criminal conspiracy. Possessing of dangerous weapons by him may not have been done intentionally and naadani mein woh yeh kaam kar baitha, choti-moti galati ho gayi (he committed this act innocently without knowing its repercussions). He has been absolved of TADA charges and I feel the verdict is just and fair. Yash Patnaik (Creative Head of Fireworks Productions): It is a 50-50 verdict and no one is beyond the law. It is a very fair call and I respect the verdict as it is giving the correct message to the Indian youth, that when an icon especially after the success of Lage Raho Munnabhai, has been convicted, no one is beyond or above law. Indian youth should know that there is a line, which is not to be crossed. Satyajit Bhatkal (a lawyer and film/serial maker): Sorry, no comments. I hate to make a comment on something I did not keep track of. Criminal cases go under complex procedures before arriving at a verdict and I don't think any layman has the right to pass his judgement or comments on the case. http://www.tellychakkar.com/y2k6/nov/28nov/feature_sanjay.ph p |
