The music of Aashiqui 2 comes with a very heavy burden predominantly due to the name 'Aashique' attached to it, also not to forget that any film from the stable of the Bhatt's is ought to have great music. Aashiqui till date is the Biggest Musical success in India going by cassette sales volume. The music of Aashiqui that was released in 1990 was such a rage that purely on the super success of its music only that film with newcomers turned into a very big hit. Now that's some REAL BURDEN, isn't it? So, the big question does Aashiqui2's music have in it to at least deliver due to the names 'attached' to it if not entirely overhaul its predecessor. Find out in the review below!
The 1st song to begin this musical journey is 'TUM HI HO' sung by the very talented Arijit Singh, composed & penned by Mithoon. A very soft & soothing number with beautiful musical arrangements majorly in form of Pianos & Guitar, this one's a winner in the 1st listening itself. The antara 'Tere liye hi main jiya, khud ko jo yun de diya' takes the song to even greater heights. A PERFECT romantic song (5/5).
Next in line is 'SUN RAHA HAI NA' composed & sung by a new talent Ankit Tiwari. A soft rock number which begins with superb written lines(Mujhko iraade de, kasme de vaade de) by Sandeep Nath will keep you hooked to this brilliant song that goes over 6 minutes, if picturised well this will indeed turn into the 'LOVE ANTHEM' as the makers are promoting it to be. Again a perfect (5/5).
The 3rd song in the album 'CHAHUN MAIN YA NAA' is composed by Jeet Ganguly and sung by Arijit Singh & Palak Muchhal. This love duet with Electric guitars, drums beats & violin is a worthy follow up in the album with superb lyrics again. Though the female voice sounds dangerously similar to Shreya Ghosal(until I read the credits I assumed that Shreya had sung it), she does fabulous job. (4/5).
next up is 'HUM MAR JAAYENGE' that transports you to the mushy-mushy zone with the feel of 90's. Sung by Tulsi Kumar (Why GOD?? WHY WHY?) and Arijit Singh this is a decent track but does not provide any innovativeness. Still a good listen (3.5/5).
'MERI AASHIQUI' is basically the reprise version of 'Tum Hi Ho'; here Palak Muchhal gives company to Arijit Singh. Composed by Mithoon, the lyrics have been altered for the female part while Arijit croons the same last antara as in 'Tum hi Ho'. Superlative track yet again (5/5).
Coming in the midway of album the song 'PIYA AAYE NA' begins with a mouth organ. Sung by Tulsi Kumar (Eh!) & the very versatile KK (these days we get to hear very less from him), this one's a good composition from Jeet Ganguly. Music arrangements consist of guitars, pianos & mouth organs. KK does full justice (3.5/5).
7th track 'BHULA DENA' is a soft rock composition by Jeet. Singer is Mustafa Zahid who has expertise in rendering such tracks. Lyrics are written aptly by Sanjay Masoom, this appears a situational song in the movie where the protagonist asks his lover to forget him & that she will have to live without him. Electric guitars, Drum beats etc. totally enhances the feel & mood of the track. Superb number once again (4/5).
'AASAN NAHI YAHAN' sung by Arijit Singh is strictly an OK track; it gives a sense of dj vu thanks to similar songs composed by Pritam. This song does not offer anything great (2.5/5).
Next is 'SUN RAHA HAI NA' (Female version) sung by Shreya Ghosal. This song is a complete U-TURN from its original version, as the composer has totally changed the musical arrangements. He cleverly incorporates the Indian musical instruments such as Santoor, Flutes etc & shows his mastery over this song. Shreya's sublime voice is a big bonus here. But Ankit Tiwari is the winner. As good as the original (5/5).
For the track 'MILNE HAI MIJHSE AAYI' , Arijit Singh takes the Rockstar route. Composed by Jeet Ganguly with lyrics from Irshad Kamil, this can be said as a decent song. Arijit shows his versatility (3/5).
'AASHIQUI(Love Theme)' composed by Mithoon depends heavily on Violins & Pianos. The main music heard here is from 'Tum Hi Ho' song. A good end to the Album (4/5).
To sum up, Aashiqui 2 does stand firm upon the expectation. In the present scenario where there's hardly any innovativeness with item songs taking precedence, the music of Aashiqui 2 fuses in fresh breath of air. A winner all the way, this will be lapped up by the music buffs !
