TV actors talk about quitting their shows: Real or fake?
Ram Kapoor More Pics
Recent times have seen TV actors talk about quitting their shows. Are they serious? Or is it a publicity gimmick? Or just a tactic for a pay hike?

When a telly show's lead actor or actress announces his/her exit, it puts the very future of the show at stake. But more often than not, such threats have turned out to be gimmicks — either to garner immediate attention or for a fatter pay packet. While there have been instances of actors genuinely wanting to bid adieu to their shows — no matter how rare they are — an announcement to quit is always seen with suspicion. So, is it for money or for real? We look at some recent examples.

Hina Khan
The latest to join the bandwagon of celebrities indulging in 'quitting drama' is Hina Khan aka Akshara of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. She reportedly told a section of the media that she wants to quit the show. Suddenly, the actress now says she has no plans to do so. Wonder what made her change her mind.

Ronit Roy
Ronit Roy recently said, "I will see if I want to continue with Adaalatafter returning from my month-long shoot of a movie in Thailand." But a few days later, the actor had a change of heart and told the media that he would resume shooting for the show once he returns to Mumbai. He insisted that the rumours about him quitting were baseless. By the end of it all, we are so confused we don't know what to believe.

Kavita Kaushik
The actress had threatened to quit comedy show FIR almost a year before she finally walked out. At that time, many were of the opinion that it was to force a hike in remuneration. Much later, Kavita bowed out of the show to play the lead in Tota Weds Maina, which went off air recently.

Shivaji Satam
Reports of ACP Pradyuman — synonymous with one of the longest running television shows, CID— quitting had his viewers go berserk. The actor said he had outlived the character and wanted to move on. He left, only to return in the blink of an eye. Apparently, the whole drama was created just to give the show some hype.

Ram Kapoor
The rumour that he is quitting Bade Achhe Laggte Hain led to a media frenzy. Scribes left no stone unturned to find out the reason that must have triggered the "decision". It was later learnt that the buzz was nothing but a well-chalked out publicity stunt.

Mouli Ganguly
The actress, who plays the antagonist in Kya Huaa Tera Vaada, had almost quit just before the show took a leap of 10 years. Sources from the set had informed that Mouli was unhappy with her track turning totally negative— it seems she had expected it to be grey. However, she is still part of the show. Did anybody say attention-seeking attempt?
