Chapter 6
Bani's voice fell flat. "Oh it's you again.haan ri its him again...😉 I'm busy Jai, what the hell do you want from me now shaadi...thats all 😆... pakka tumhaari shaadi ka khayaal dil mai aaya hai...issi liye JW ne apne aap ko tere gahr par laya hai...😆...ok this was too BAD...😆" asked Bani angrily.
When Bani tried to slam the door, Jai stuck his foot in the jam, and leaned nonchalantly against it, his thumbs hooked in his belt loops. "I bet you don't get many dates with that maneuver. You're positively brimming over with joy to see menow now...hold it boy... just coz I sang in your favour doesn't mean u start off like this😡" he said to her.
Glancing over his shoulder and then at her gold watch, Bani counted seconds. Rajeev Khandelwal would be here any momentand that very moment he'll come to me...😳Saby thanks a ton for getting me this hunk.... and she didn't feel like being caught in the middle of two men. u won't get that chance...coz I'm here...😉
"I'm on my way out Jai, so if you have business, please state it quickly and leave" she said to Jai.Aha... someone acting pricey...Well done...
Jai held up his hands. "Whooooaaaaaaa! Since when did you become the ice princess?"Since the day u became the active volcano....
He then sidled closer to her, his breath fanning her neck when he gave her a peck on the cheek. "As I recall, you used to be very warm to me earlier Bani."sorry no comments...ab mujhe kya pata what he's talking about.... main sweet innocent bachchi ...kya samjhoon ye kya keh raha hai...yaa kya kehna chahta hai.... 😳
Bani let her glance slither over him, angry at her traitorous heart for skipping several beatsDil hai ki maanta nahi.... and her breathing for coming in punctuated bursts. She did not want to be attracted to this man.now if only this was possible.... He did not deserve her lovehe'll become worthy of it by all means... give him some time... he'll work his way to the deepest section of your heart....❤️ and affection and she was determined to get over him.
"Those days are gone Jai.jaane kahan gaaye wo din.... I'm much smarter now.well that still remains to be seen...😉 Did you merely come to taunt me or is there a purpose for this unexpected pleasure?" she asked him through gritted teeth. I love this Bani...kya jawaab diya hai...Waah...👏👏👏
Icicles dripped from her lips. Looking over his shoulder again, Bani asked dryly "Where's lacey your girlfriend? Or did she let you off the leash for a stroll on your own?"...Saby that was awsome... But Bani just coz I'm laughing right now doesn't mean u can continue troubling him at all times....
Jai sighed and closed the door. He then took Bani's elbow in his hand, and led her into her living room where Pushkar had his feet propped up on the coffee table and sipped a soda as he watched television.
Bani's brother turned his head, his mouth open to say something, and his lips twisted into a wry grin.
"Jai my man! How's it going guy? What did you think of what the parents said the other night?" asked Pushkar as he stood and held out his hand to shake Jai's.
Jai shook Pushkar's extended hand and said "I can't voice the words in a lady's presence." But Jai's dark scowl said it all. Well this very Lady was present that day....tab kya hua tha,.... akal to ghaas charne bheja tha tumne😡
Bani could well guess what Jai was thinking and she was none too pleased. The thought of marrying her made him want to swear and curse.Bani my sympathies are already with you... but he'll learn don't worry.... he WILL😊
Pushkar looked around the room and then at Bani and said "What di?"
"Pushy" she said in a deadly tone but quietly, balling her hands into fists. "Could we use the living room? In private?" Batting her lashes at her almost extinct sibling, Bani inclined her head toward the room he was staying in.
"Does this mean Jai will be my brother-in-law after all?😆Ab ye thapad khaayega.... definately thapad khayega...." asked Pushkar with a smirk. He then guzzled the last drop of soda from the can and crushed it in his hand.
He turned towards Jai and said "my condolences, man. She's been a regular grinch this week."Pushy.....GET OUT😡...
"Puuuushy..." Bani practically growled the word. Rajeev would be here any moment and she wanted Jai long gone.
"You're no fun anymore, Bani. Lighten up. Don't worry, I'm going" said Pushkar and he swaggered down the hall and meandered into his bedroom. No fun....Pushy baby...u need to know what fun is all about... imagine your sis making JW go down on his knees...now what else could be more fun😉
Glancing pointedly at her watch again, she said tapping her toe "Two minutes and counting Jai. Make it quick."
Grasping Bani's hands in his, Jai led her to the sofa and perched on the edge.
"Don't be angry at me, Bani. This mess isn't my fault" he said.Ya ya... now all u did was humilate her entire being.... thats all....😡😡😡
Bani arched her brow and shook her head. Her freshly painted nails drummed against the top of her entertainment center. "Mess? Ahhhhhhh yes. You were so overjoyed at the prospect of marrying me, weren't you? What a red letter day it was" she replied sarcastically.Bani my unconditional support is with you at the momnet...
Jai took off his jacket, his Adam's apple throbbing. Bani had him on the run now.
"I didn't mean anything personally. I like you. now I'm waiting till this converts to LOVE....Truly, I do. It's just that I'm already engaged and the news came as a shock..." said Jai while hesitating a bit.
"I understand" said Bani and then she stood. She understood all right. Girlfriend or not, the last thing he would do voluntarily is marry her.
"Have a beautiful wedding and a happy life and I wish you and lacey wild child the best" she said to him.
Jai yanked her back down to the couch next to him and tried once again by explaining ….. "Look Bani. You might be willing to lose your inheritance, give up your family business, and alienate your family, but I'm not. Perhaps we can work this out."WOW...what a proposal... arrey itne pyaar se kyu.... she;s your bloody servant...no slave...u order and she'll oblige😡😡😡
Bani had to hear this. She nodded, narrowing her eyes and watching him closely.
"We can marry in name only, share a place for three years, and have an open marriage. We'll each go our own way. We'll pretend to be happy at family dinners to appease the parents and at the end of the three years, we'll have an amicable divorce." Jai's voice was husky when he disclosed this to Bani.Waah waah....😡
"Your logic's flawed" said Bani in return. She pleated her skirt between her fingers. What Jai described sounded like pure torture. She'd never go along with it in a million years.
"How so?" asked Jai. He glanced around the room. "You're letting Pushkar stay here and you seem to be getting along. Why would it be any different with me?"JW.... u compare yourself with her brother...BROTHER....😡
Bani had to laugh. Jai was so damn unreal. Clearing her throat, she forced the words through her lips.
"For one, Pushkar's my brother you pighead. And two, aren't you forgetting the tiny little matter of producing an heir?" she asked him.
Ab jawaab de ....
Bani couldn't bring herself to say baby. That felt too intimate, too special. Then an off the wall thought struck her. "Or did you plan on sending me to one of those in vitro fertilization clinics?" she asked him point blankedly.
Jai fiddled with his collar in frustration and ran his fingers through his hair. "Pia did mention that..." he murmured with a guilty look on his face.Pia did ...and u fool listened and blurted it out here.... U r such a fool...😡
A deep sigh ripped from Bani. "Sooooooo, let me get this straight. I'm supposed to be impregnated via in vitro fertilization. And then I'm supposed to carry your child and then tend for your child for the balance of our time until we can divorce. Meanwhile, as I'm stuck at home, you can go out and do whatever you want with lacey, hippy or whoever?"
JW....you can have no answer for this.... how do u plan to get things right.... she's too smart for you... so my suggestion is ....LEAVE HER ALONE😡
Anger simmered in Bani's veins, building to a full boil. Striking a sarcastic pose, she glared at him. "I suppose that sounds wonderful to you Jai Walia, but what do I get out of this arrangement? Fat?" she screamed back.
"Bani..." said Jai ……….. but before he could complete his sentence ………. Bani poked him in the chest, infuriated and said "don't you dare Bani me. What happens to our child at the end of the three years? Do I get him or her? Do you and lacey get him or her so that she can turn him or her into a hippy too? Or do we have joint custody?"I love Pia being addressed as lacey....👏 too good.... and JW...I'm still waiting for u to answer...
"Baniiiiii..." sighed Jai once again ……….. his jaw dropped open. It was obvious he'd not thought this all the way through. Way through😡...way through😡...U didn't think at all.... socha hota to pata chalta ki kya bakwaas kar rahe ho...😡
"Some people are settling down, some people are still settling and some people refuse to settle for anything less than butterflies ……. and why should they when there are so many flying out there?."

Chapter 7
The doorbell rang. Finally! Another minute with Jai and Bani would have to kill him. The nerve of the man!
Jai looked at the door as Bani sauntered to it. "Are you expecting someone Bani?" he enquired.
Bani allowed a flirtatious smile to curve her lips and lilt to enter her voice. Tossing her hair behind her shoulders, she said with a big smile "My date …….. Jai darling."
"Date?" Jai almost choked on the word to Bani's innate satisfaction.
"Yes honey Date as in D A T E" she said matter of factly, stressing on each and every alphabet while opening the door for Rajeev Khandelwal.
Rajeev's appearance didn't disappoint at all. He looked more scrumptious than on television. Slight golden rays from the early evening danced in his glorious hair. He smiled at her and lifted her hand to his lips, murmuring, "Enchante Mademoiselle. You're more beautiful than the sunrise itself."
Uneasy, but flattered, Bani gazed up at him, noting the golden flecks in his brown eyes. "Television doesn't do you justice Rajeev." And it didn't. This man was gorgeous ……… plain drop dead gorgeous.
Bani wondered what Jai was thinking, if he was even the tiniest bit jealous? Of course he wouldn't be. He had Pia who was every man's fantasy with her leather, lace, 36 double D's and tattoos? And if that wasn't enough, her nose stud. Stop it Bani! In a minute, she'd be meowing.
Jai bristled beside Bani and cleared his throat. "Who's this Bani?" he whispered in Bani's ears.
His gaze raked Rajeev from head to toe, his eyes were intense and he did not look pleased at all.
"This is Rajeev Khandelwal, the weather man at Star TV."
Allowing Rajeev to hold her hand purely for Jai's benefit even though they'd just met, Bani said, "Rajeev, this is Jai, an old family friend. He's practically my brother. Jai, this is Rajeev, my date."
"Date ………. Me your broooootttttthhh?" but before Jai could complete his sentence Bani added
"Yes he is like a big brother, aren't you Jai, and Rajeev, am I not lucky to have a big brother like Jai" said Bani with a smirk on her face stressing on the word brother, much to Jai's dissatisfaction.
Jai shook the hand Rajeev held out and grumbled. "Nice to meet you Rajeev."
His scowl deepened. Turning to Bani, Jai said in a gruff voice, "I'll be back Bani. And we will discuss the matter in more depth."
Under his breath, Bani heard Jai mutter to her satisfaction "Hmph, me her brother ……… she called me …. me Jai Walia ……. her big brother ……. brother my foot."
The door closed with a bang behind him and Bani knew her newly appointed brother was less than happy to meet her blind date.
***
Lightning split the sky and the wind gusted, clutching at Bani's hair. Leaning against her house, Jai crossed his arms and watched the jerk Rajeev escort Bani to his sleek black Mercedes S class.
Too aware of Jai's gaze on her, Bani did her best to ignore him. But she strengthened her resolve to forget Jai. No matter what he did, she wouldn't give into his absurd requests. When and if she ever married it would be for love ………… true love and nothing less.
Well, she did love Jai. But the love had to be reciprocal before she entered into such a holy union. Staying single didn't scare her as it did to some of her friends, but marrying the wrong man or for the wrong reasons, mortified her.
"I'd hoped we'd have a moonlit night so we could dine and dance under the stars" Rajeev murmured in Bani's ear.
That sounded divine. Bani loved to dance and she loved the moonlight. Maybe for once in her life she'd found a gem on a blind date. He certainly looked twenty-four karat.
"How lovely" Bani replied.
As Rajeev slipped into his seat and revved the engine he glanced at the sky. "Unfortunately, it wouldn't be prudent with this weather front rolling in and all that moisture. I called the station right before I pulled up to your house and the Doppler's very colorful tonight."
"Oh." Whatever that meant thought Bani.. Trepidation crawled up her spine as she eyed him warily. Something in his voice and in his expression made her uneasy.
"I think we're in for a severe thunderstorm. Maybe even some twister activity tonight." Glee flickered across Rajeev's eyes, or at least that's what it looked like.
"Tonight?" Alarm slammed through Bani. Half twisting in her seat, she studied his profile in the dimming light and tried to calm her nerves by concentrating on his face. No one's nose could be that perfect naturally. He must've had plastic surgery she thought to herself. When branches skittered across the road in front of the car, Bani's heart fluttered.
"Should we be out? I mean if there's a tornado, the worst place to be is in a car, right?" asked Bani frantically.
Shudders wracked her body. Tornadoes scared her, not that they had many, thank God, but there'd been an increase in the past couple of years. Hadn't one ripped the roof off the UPS building down just a couple of years ago?
Rajeev maneuvered the car easily as he turned onto I-95 toward downtown. Pointing at the sky, he tensed. "Look at those little danglers" he said to Bani.
"Where? Do you mean twisters?" asked Bani. Without her volition, her fingers clutched at his arm. Searching the sky, she didn't find a single tornado and relaxed against her seat.
"There" said Rajeev and he pointed eastward. "At two o'clock. Those little wisps of clouds hanging down."
Bani stared at the innocuous clouds for a moment and then turned her gaze on him. She smoothed her skirts over her knees and crossed her ankles. "They don't look like funnel clouds" she said to Rajeev.
"They could turn into them. I used to be a tornado hunter. Some of those suckers are pretty unpredictable. I'll have to keep my eye on it." Picking up his cellular phone, he called a report into his station. He spoke a foreign language – dopplers, clouds, dew points, sectors…
It was all she could do to keep from yawning. She hoped this wasn't the norm for him, obsessed with the weather.
Rain drizzled for a few seconds before deluging them. Lightning cracked to the east and the thunder boomed almost instantaneously making her jump. Small hail stones pelted the car, each and every ping making her blink.
"It's right over us." The car's windshield wipers became hyperactive giving Rajeev visibility to drive. "Holy cow…Look up there. We got a funnel cloud sighting" he said excitedly.
"Omigod! Drive faster. Get away from it. Hurry. We have to take cover!" screamed Bani. Her heart stopped as she clutched her seat so hard her fingernails dug into the vinyl. It could toss their vehicle hundreds of feet or suck it inside the wind tunnel.
But instead of trying to escape the twister, Rajeev spun in a U-turn and began chasing it, his expression rapt. Dialing out on his cell phone again, he said in excited tones, "I've got a sighting. Looks like waterspouts are forming on the Intracoastal near the 17th Street Causeway. Give an advisory. I'm on my way."
"You are going to the tornado?" shrieked Bani. Rajeev was crazy!
"Let me out!" cried Bani.
Rajeev turned to Bani with a look as if he'd forgotten she was in the car.
"You can't get out here? That's suicide! This is a bad part of town, especially at night. I can't drop you here…" Annoyance lined Rajeev's words.
"You'll be tomorrow night's news." When more hail stoned the car, Rajeev said with annoyance, "You can't go out in this."
"Here ……… I wanna get out here.. Tornadoes terrify me" Bani screamed. She'd find shelter and get out of this mobile death trap.
Indecision flickered across Rajeev's flawless features and then he pulled into a gas station. "Sorry I don't have time to do better. I have to get the scoop" he said to Bani.
Waving him away, as Bani hopped out of Rajeev's car, she leaned over and said sarcastically "Go on. Chase your twisters. Have a blast, don't worry about me, I'm just your blind date."
It wasn't till Rajeev was half way down the block that Bani realized that she had left her purse in his car. It contained all her money, cell phone, and credit cards. She didn't even have thirty-five cents on her to make a pay call. Although she chased him, yelling, "Wait! Come back" he didn't. He probably couldn't see her in the downpour and he was too obsessed with the twister to think and hear anything else.
Chill water soaked Bani, ruining her heels, plastering her hair to her skull and made her shiver uncontrollably. Bani couldn't even get a cab in this part of town to stop for her. The wind shear nearly pushed her over a couple of times and she held her arm over her face to protect it from the hail. Luckily the storm seemed to be almost hailed out as she was only struck by the occasional projectile. Still, branches and other loose debris tumbled about and she had to watch out for those as she went in search of a pay phone. Everyone she tried was out of order. By the time she found one, she'd probably have walked half way home. Lightning and wind made her duck into dark doorways for protection.
Not that she was sure they were protection. She kept imagining hands grabbing her, and eyes glowing in the dark. She wondered if she should've stayed with Rajeev, unsure which was the worst evil. This was the last time she'd ever date a meteorologist. She'd get Pooja for this…that is if she survived this night.
"People go to casinos for the same reason they go on blind dates - hoping to hit the jackpot. But mostly, you just wind up broken hearted or alone in a bar or lonelier than you were before."
Humour for the day
Why Beer Is Better Than Women?
1. You can pick up a beer in any bar in town.
2. You can have more than one beer a night and not feel guilty.
3. A beer won't get upset if you come home with beer on your breath.
4. A beer will never complain about your beer belly.
5. A beer won't get jealous if you bring home other beers.
6. You don't have to wine and dine a beer.
7. A beer won't throw things if you come home after 2am.
8. A beer won't ever expect you to buy it flowers.
9. You don't have to take your socks off with a beer.
10. Hangovers are only temporary.
