RANI FACES WRATH IN VARANASI

The queen of Indian hearts, Rani Mukherjee, has faced one of the worst shooting phases of her life during Pradeep Sarkar's film in Varanasi. The problem arose recently when Rani's security guards roughed up media persons and the local people busy watching shooting of Yashraj's under production film 'Chudiyan'. Rani was accompanied by her co-actress Konkona Sen Sharma. The tussle between the actress and the media started near the Dashwamedh Ghat when the film crew was leaving for their hotel after a daylong shoot at Mirghat near the banks of holy river Ganga. The problem aggravated when some journalists and the locals tried to get close to the stars and crewmembers. The security guards entered into a confrontation with them that led to mass agitation. It is alleged that some of the media persons sustained injuries and one camera was also damaged.

Rani also faced the anger and wrath of saffron brigade led by Kranti Shiv Sena (KSS), the breakaway faction of the Shiv Sena. Arun Pathak, party president, stated that the shooting disrupted the sanctity of the Ganges. KSS men's anger grew and they took a mock funeral procession of Rani and burnt her effigies at Harishchandra Ghat. Rani was infuriated when the paparazzi and a small section of people started interfering in their shooting. The actress dismissed allegations about her misbehavior with the media. Later, Rani apologized to the concerned media persons for this untoward incident at Varanasi. She stressed upon the fact that both media and the film industry worked in tandem and should respect each other. Yashraj's 'Chudiyan' also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek and Jaya Bachchan in lead roles with Pradeep Sarkar of the 'Parineeta' fame directing it. The incident brought back memories of Deepa Mehta's 'Water' where the fundamentalists had jolted the film proceedings, a few years ago.
