According to Hindu mythology, Apasmara was a dwarf who represented ignorance and epilepsy. During the cosmic dance of Ta??ava by god Siva in the form of Sri Na?araja - the Lord of Dance, Apasmara was crushed by the right foot of Siva and was killed. This mythological dwarf is generally depicted with his hand in Ajali Mudra. He is often depicted in this posture in depictions of Na?araja. He is also known as Muyalaka or Muyalakan.
Apasmara is also a neurological disorder described in Ayurveda. According to Mahar?i Caraka, there are 4 types of apasmara. This condition is also known as epilepsy.
