The 10th episode of Nach Baliye 2 had each of the stars perform solo for the first time in the dance show to a song of their choiceStar performers:
Manav Gohil, who wowed the judges and won a Natraja statuette for being the day's best solo performer. Tanaaz Lal, Yash Tonk, Husain and Tina Kuwajerwala also gave some memorable performances.
It was supposed to be Nach Baliye's celebrity day out with each partner of the remaining couples performing solo for the first time in the show's second season. It ended up being choreographer-judge Saroj Khan's day in the lights. Not only because it was her birthday, but also because she got most of the applause for her brief impromptu dance to the opening notes of the original Umrao Jaan's popular mujra, Dil cheez kya hai. Hussain is Hrithik! Livewire performer Hussain, who performed the day's opening act set to Sukhbir's Ishq, made an impact on judge Kunal Kohli. Calling his performance "film worthy", Kohli compared Hussain to Hrithik, saying: "Hrithik (to Husain), you were fantastic!" A gift from the birthday girl In complete contrast to Tanaaz and Bakhtyaar's much-criticised pelvic thrust-driven dance act last Monday, Tanaaz did a taandav to 'divine effect.' "It gave me goose bumps," said a "scared" Malaika Arora, while birthday girl Khan was so overwhelmed by Lal's performance that she promptly gifted her a ring. Shweta does a Rekha? Shweta Kawaatra, who's been consistently wowing the judges post her debut debacle, once again faced flak for her "brave attempt" at dancing to Rekha's Dil cheez kya hai from the original Umrao Jaan. She ended up with the lowest score amongst the solo performers. Her choreographer, Yogesh Patkar, drew the judges' ire for daring to overestimate his subject's potential. Khan, on prodding from fellow judges Kohli and Arora, did an impromptu rendition of the evergreen mujra, showing the difference between a good copy and a bad copy."A mujra doesn't mean an overdose of whirling and hand movements. You have to be aware of the tehzeeb of the dance form to do it well," said Khan, ruing: "The mujras seen in Hindi films today fail to connect because they're just contemporary dances in a different costume."
Finally a seeti for Gauri
Constantly reprimanded as mediocre dancers, leading TV couple Hiten and Gauri Tejwani finally scored with their solo acts. Gauri even got a seeti from Khan and ranked a perfect eight for the first time in the 10episode old reality dance show. A surprise revelation, she tossed off her reputation of a dull performer, gyrating to a hot dance number "in the company of lots of men, minus hubby Hiten."
