As many of you may know, I am not Indian, but I have spent a lot more time watching Indian shows than I have watching shows from my own country. Anyhow, in my viewer experience, I have not seen a harder working actor than Gautam Rode on Indian television. Yes, many in the industry work hard - but they also whine a lot. (Every profession is difficult, actors. We metro folks wish we could roam outside our cubicles like you can on exotic sets, live the lives of different characters, etc. We all work long hours, such is the nature of the world.) Gautam Rode struck me as unique because he always addressed these work hassles as the best of opportunities. After all, this is what actors work for, no? Passion, exposure and appreciation. And he does it all with a smile on his face because he has worked hard for this for many years.
Sometimes, the SBB/SBS people seem to pester him too much with fans, private space breaches, lunch break interruptions, etc. But he lays it all out in the open for them. I wrote about it before here:https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/saraswatichandra/3485596/i-felt-embarrassed-for-gautam-today-how-awful. He's receptive and an open book, yet at the same time, no one has really managed to crack into who he really is as a private person. Many actors want to be famous and then decry lack of privacy, but Rode has the balance just right. He's out there, but he's opaque. Smart guy.*
*Okay, I didn't say this initially, but I will just say it cause I can't keep a secret 😆. He's a cut above the rest intelligence-wise. It doesn't take long to see that. He talks well and conducts himself well, no silliness unless it is part of an act.
Yes, fans sometimes do bother, but they love the actors a lot too. Every fan has to take their own actions into account here as I said in my other post, but talking about rude fans in public like other TV actors do is PR suicide. No matter how odd the fan or interviewer, Gautam is always the same professional and receptive actor. That is a great quality in a professional who wants to go far in the business of people-pleasing.
Coming to his work, I have to say he's going a great job as the vulnerable yet stubborn Saras. A job well done thus far, keep it up. I saw a few snippets of Nach 5 and saw that he was an equally good sport there for all the silly things they wanted him to do.
So Gautam, thank you for working so hard to give us a 5-day a week show. This thanks goes to the entire team of SC. You have made our weekdays better 😊 with this classic drama. It gives me something to enjoy during the work week and the weekend!
I have never liked the word fan, but I will certainly say that I appreciate your hard work, Gautam. Good luck and may you enjoy a happy life.
Mary.
