Girls normally don the ghoonghat in the presence of their in-laws and elders from the husband's house. Not otherwise. If Uma Ben had a MIL, or if some elders from her husband's family visit, she should wear it. That is the custom. Covering the head is taken as a mark of respect. That is why even in temples and gurudwaras, people cover their heads.

It is for Chhan chhan to un ghooghatiafy them

But as for custom goes normally it is done in front of elders in the in-laws house as mark of respect..Uma ben is the MIL ..I dont know wether she has a FIL /MIL in the show or not..it yes then she should have her ghoonghat in front of them...if not then Chhan chhan will make her do it asap..as she wants her to be first at everything lol

Uma-ben's DIL all look like they are traditional girls and they may not be also educated.

traditional girls dont just do things just because they see their MIL do. they follow tradition and wouldn't ask any questions.

Uma may be a little open minded, but that is to her own self not to her DIL. and it looks like she personally handpick all her DILs so that she dominates them.

she also wants this type of girls for Manav...she said "she wants a traditional girl" its only so she wouldn't have to be answering questions the way Chanchan made her do in just one day.

@bold yes this makes sense.

Thanks to everyone who replied. And to the ones who mentioned that if she herself had a MIL Uma would cover her head, that's a good point. But the reason I asked is that usually in shows, even the head matriarch in these shows wears a goonghat even if they don't have a FIL or MIL or what not. Meaning, the head matriarch I've seen wearing it even if there is no patriarch.

Either way, it just hit me is all. Again, thanks for the replies all.
