Feel free to agree or disagree.

After a short hiatus of over 3 months, we get to see Sanaya back on screen as the main lead of Chanchan. the first week didn't meet my expectations. But still the magic of Sanaya and the promise of Supriyaji keeps me glued. here are a few pointers after week one.

What worked for me-
Sanaya, looks effortless even in some of the OTT scenes. She is playful, graceful and stands her ground against a seasoned performed like Supriyaji.
Her family clicked with me, especially her mother who carries herself with elan and class.
Supriyaji although was a little off in Episode one, came back strongly in the remaining episodes. I wish there were more shades to her character.

What didn't work for me-
The comedy- The comedy seems forced. I wish it was subtle and flowed with the story.
The hurried nature of story telling in week one. The PH should have just used a couple of episodes to show Chanchan and Umaben's family, instead of rushing it through to the wedding and their first few confrontations
The lines of the show are very mediocre and there are very few which stand out. the dialogues have to be more crisp and impactful.
The background music is terrible and in urgent need of overhaul
Sanaya's make-up is too loud. She is a naturally stunning woman and doesn't need the layers of make-up she currently has.

What I want to see next week?

I want them to focus on developing Chanchan's character- like what drives her, what are her mannerisms, how does she gel with her family.
I would especially love to see Chanchan's interactions with her mother and Daadi
More shades of Umaben's character.
And for the love of God, get more of Puchpuch on screen

What I don't want to see?
Is another regular saas-bahu fare. I want Chanchan to continue standing her ground against Umaben.

Verdict of the week-
A lot of progress still needs to be made, but Sanaya has me hooked, for at least a little while.

(I will write about Farhan next week.)

I didn't really have too many expectations coming in, and mainly started watching because of Sanaya. She hasn't disappointed, and I think her performance stands out as a refreshing bit of sunshine in what has, for me, been tedious viewing so far. I find that the storyline isn't really hooking me, and the comedy, as you say, comes across as forced. The male lead hasn't really been given much of a chance to show us what he's made of, so I'll withhold judgment on him for now. I'll give the show one more week, I guess, and then decide whether Sanaya alone is enough to make me want to continue watching it..

Totally agree with you ... hope the makers notice our disappointment ... I wanted this show to beat the hell out of D&B but alas I have very little hope

Lovely review, NB.

For me, ChanChan and Uma Ben's interactions have been the highlight of the show so far. Both are doing a brilliant job.

I like ChanChan's mother and dadi...I'm hoping to see more of her family including the dogs next week.

Farhan is doing a reasonable job for a newbie, hope he'll improve as the show progresses.

The negatives are CC's friends... I like Purvi, but the rest are not upto the mark. T

There has been a vast improvement in the show since the first episode and hope this trend continues.

Agree with you on most of the points!

Sanaya should remain natural, both in look and in acting. So far she is as usual doing wonderful acting. Regarding look, may be it was a marriage track so she was having layers of make-up... but i hope she does not continue with those in coming days. Plus I think she can sometimes change her hairstyles.. as normal people do. I mean she can sometimes get a pony tail , sometimes hair open, sometimes curly and sometimes straight! that makes things more natural.

I loved the parts where she was with her family.. You right, her mother really looks elegant. Her siblings, too, can get some more space ..

Farhan... makers of the show really needs to work on him. He is good-looking, but acting... it is not coming! hope he improves soon!

i slightly disagree with few points but other than that its a real nice review..very much balanced..
and i also strongly feel and seek for a slower pace..want them to focus more on the details of scenes, characters and expressions..then only the show and characters can leave a deep impact on our mind..
but overall i like the show..and for me its improving with each episode..

Excellent review NB!! The only thing is, regarding Sanaya's make-up, it might be because its a wedding that they're overdoing it. That's the typical desi thing to do. I'm waiting to see how it is once the setting has changed. But I agree with everything else you said, word for word, especially the part about what didn't work. Sigh...I wish they would take your pointers. They should have streamed the first couple of episodes for some audience members and waited for feedback to see what worked and what didn't work.

Everything feels kinda rushed and whatever point they're trying to make, I wish they would get to it already because it feels like its going nowhere. They should make up their mind on if they want this to be a serious social drama or a comedy or light-hearted drama or a mix of all...right now, the show has no identity which is what I thought you're supposed to establish in the initial episode so people can decide if they want to watch or not. I'm kinda mad about the fact that they didn't take advantage of all the hype, promotion and star power and deliver a memorable first episode so viewers tuning in would be hooked.

Storytelling and characterization is so important, if they get that right, everything else falls into place. I hope once they actually get to the point where they start telling the real story, the pace will pick up and it will get interesting. Right now, Sanaya's the only reason I'm watching this. I'm not hooked onto the story even remotely.

I agree with you...completely...
the story telling should be a little slower...
but i doubt they'll drag it...
family interactions they showed in the 1st epi was good...
but then the whole wedding fiasco sidelined the Umaben's family and Manav's characteristics...
It shouldn't be a saas bahu serial...but at the same time they are going for the same cliched idea of hero heroin fighting then falling in love...i really don't like that...
