A little about your character in Saathi Re? I pay the character of Suman. She's a typical Gujarati girl, very homely and reserved by nature. She is the ideal Indian bahu material. The story revolves around her love story and becomes a sort of love triangle. It is all about how she balances her previous love and her married life. Is there another man or woman in the picture? Well I am in love with Prem but marry somebody else. Why is that so? It is just to please her parents, as her family is very important to her. She respects her parents a lot. She is not the sort to oppose her parents. Does she continue her affair with Prem? She does not meet Prem after the marriage nor is in touch with him. However, she still loves him. It is a bit like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Do you identify yourself with the character? I believe in her that is the reason why I can play it. There are many girls like her even today. In Saathi Re, the father is head of the family and is very disciplinarian. He is very particular about his daughter coming home at a particular time, the kind of clothes that she wears. What attracted you to the show? The production house and the fact that I was getting an opportunity of working with senior actors. The interesting bit is that Suman is so different from me. I kept telling the writers and the writers that I was not like that in real life and I couldn't relate to her. But they were keen that I play it. I felt blessed that they had so much faith in me. Was it also the fact that this was the first show that came your way? I also had an offer to play the second lead in Ghar Ki Laxmi Betiya but I chose Saathi Re as I was playing main lead. I also had a few offers for shows on Sahara One. Are any more offers coming your way now? I have been getting many offers for daily shows. But it's not possible for me because of the time constraints. As of now, I'm too committed to this show to take up anything else. Every television actor aspires to be a Balaji actor. How about you? I don't think there's anything like being a Balaji actor. It's more about getting into your character and the feeling that you can do justice to it. Today I think every production house promotes its serials well and takes good care of their actors. And how about films? I've played the second lead in Jai Santoshi Mata. I was also offered a cameo in '36 China Town by Subhash Ghai but couldn't do it as I was still completing my graduation. Even today, time limitations prevent me from doing other work. What else have you done besides Saathi Re, and Jai Santoshi Mata? I didn't much exposure to acting as I am not a trained actor. Basically I'm a Kathak dancer and a disciple of Pt. Birju Maharaj. Being on stage and expressing myself comes from there. Even my basic interest in acting is due to my dance background. How did you get into acting? It wasn't planned. I gave various auditions while I was in Delhi. I did a few print ads. I had come to Mumbai as the Savvy Cover girl. After I shot for it, I stared getting calls for auditions after that. Any dream role? I'd love to play a Kathak dancer or anything related to it. Hence it would be probably a periodic film. Are you pursuing your dance? Kathak is my first love. I give professional performances with Pt. Birju Maharaj every time he's in Mumbai with his troupe. Eventually I want to start a Dance Academy some day. So would you want to eventually be a film or television actor? It's not about being a film or television actor. I want to do every interesting role that comes my way. The medium is not important. Even television is big today. The popularity it gives you does not match up to what you get in films. How would you like to see yourself five years from now? I'd like to have more money, popularity, a few awards and a few good shows. http://www.cybernoon.com/DisplayArticle.asp?section=xtras&am p;am p;subsection=showbuzz&xfile=November2006_tvtrack_standar d321&child=tvtrack |
