Google is considered the Mother of all search engines. i mean it provides you answers to most questions. On any topic under the earth, ranging from aeronautics to submarine building. And yes, suprisingly enough, it even sheds light on Alzheimer's, glioblastoma and, hold your breath, biochemical pregnancy.

Okay, I know this is a GEC show. So, logic is not necessarily a requirement even. I mean Ekta has brought dead people back to life, changed their faces at whim and done more such unspeakable things. But Ekta never told me that her shows were for a thinking audience. Unfortunately, the makers of KTLK told me it was. Having never in my life seen a show meant for a thinking audience, I thought it would be a privilege to join their numbers. Went around shopping long and hard before I found a thinking cap that fit my swollen head ( yeah. I am cursed with one). I donned it and gladly became a part of the thinking audiene and started watching the show.

The problem is the cap kind of got stuck onto my head and I found it impossible to remove once I had donned it. It was simply not possible to take it off at will. So, poor me was now unable to stop thinking!

You must be wondering why the title of the post is Google when it should have been thinking cap. You see, i am given to rambling a bit, so pardon me for my sins!

Anyway, since my thinking cap forced me to think, I posed all sorts of questions to the CVs on the complete lack of medical logic in the show. Kya karen, main unme se hoon jinhe sher ke muh mei haath daalna pasand hai!

And I was given an answer to beat all answers. I was told they did not have a budget for research I know research takes a lot of money. I mean sure, if you are trying to find a cure to the disease. Just to gain access to information, wouldn't Google be a decent enough option? Maybe it would not be 100% accurate but surely it could give you a broad idea of things. Like the fact that biochemical pregnancy is not false pregnancy, it is a pregnancy that self-aborted for a variety of reasons very, very early on. More importantly, when there is an abortion or a miscarriage, it is accompanied by something that no woman in the world can fail to recognize. This is even if she does not know it to be a pregnancy.

So yes, what research are the CVs talking about? Possibly research to find that Google exists!

Sujataji,

I am not a doctor but as far as my knowledge goes it is called a pseudo pregnancy where all the symptoms of pregnancy are felt without the lady being pregnant.

No Jayasree...biochemcial pregnancy is actual pregnancy wherein the woman miscarries, most of the time even before she has knowledge of her pregnancy...have had this confirmed at least by four gynaecologists...also by Dr Shubhangi, who is a member of this forum...

Dr Babs...I think i will go with your first option...they think they have a dumb female audience who collectively drool on Ashutosh and who do not have the capacity to think...now I know why they chose Sharad...apart from him being an excellent actor of course 😆

Chemical pregnancy - the cruel mirage

A chemical pregnancy occurs when an embryo does not implant properly. The embryo produces enough HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) to be detected on the beta HCG blood test and sensitive uterine pregnancy home tests, but because it does not develop normally, the pregnancy doe not occur.

What is a chemical (or biochemical) pregnancy ? How is it different from a clinical or regular pregnancy ? How can you be a "little bit" pregnant ?

A chemical pregnancy occurs when an embryo does not implant properly. The embryo produces enough HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin, the molecule which is unique to pregnancy) so that it can be detected on the beta HCG blood test and the sensitive uterine pregnancy home tests (hence its name, because it can be detected using chemical tests) , but because it does not develop normally, the HCG levels decline. No pregnancy sac can be seen on ultrasound scanning. It is a very early miscarriage, and is a type of non-viable pregnancy. It needs to be differentiated from a clinical pregnancy (when a scan can be seen on ultrasound scanning; and an ectopic pregnancy). A chemical pregnancy leaves the couple to cope with the difficult news of thinking they are pregnant when in reality they are miscarrying.

No Jayasree...with a positive home test result, they could not have called it a pseudo pregnancy...and no worries about correcting me...I am hardly an expert,...just turned to google...and wondering why the CVs could not have done the same!

Sujatha...I wrote 3 FFs and 6 OS..i think...I am neither a doctor nor a writer by profession with literature degrees in my resume. I am not even saying that my stories are brilliant and a class apart. I do realize a screenplay is hell a lot different from typing out my random thoughts into a story. But whenever I felt the need to insert a medical scene, I took Doc's help and later on of course, Google. Even assuming that our esteemed writer does not know about the concept of Google, I am sure he would at least know ONE doctor among his acquaintances to whom he can make a phone call and talk for a couple of mins.

Forget about medical facts and errors. As you pointed out, EK serials have shown the viewers stuff worse than this. But I just cannot forgive the way they have made a mockery out of domestic abuse victim..not once but TWICE..Mallika and Divya. Fine, you want to show a negative Mallika..go ahead. But if they had shown as if she had been putting on an act from the beginning to gain the attn of Ashutosh, i would probably have swallowed it. Bitter pill but still..I would have swallowed it. That track and the way they went about it...!!! The less said the better.

Suja, the worst part of all this is one of the writers is a woman...forget Alzheimer's and glioblastoma, but she should certainly know what a miscarriage entails...I am appalled...

As for you and me expecting logic and good sense, like I have said in another post, we are stupid and dumb...to expect it and, better still, to voice our disappoitnment when we dont find it...be it medical logic or issues as senstivie as DV and street children!

You see, we ought to be indebted to them intead...for doing us a favour by entertaining us...after all, they are collectively doing this as social service...with no expectation of any return other than the joy and pleasure of the viewers!

And of course, the most important defense of all...they never asked us to watch, did they...so why blame them for our stupidity!

I am wondering what will happen if ever mass media content is treated as a product and brought under the purview of the Consumer Protection Act 😆
