This had to be done. No matter how much it irked me to go looking for his scenes.
Because, as Khushi said, the villian is crucial to spice up any drama. And Shyam Manohar Jha definitely had the spice factor to him.
He was an epic villian to an epic show. Always ten steps ahead of everyone, the man was sharp, cunning, meticulous, excellent at reading people, and a very convincing liar..I mean...lawyer.
Shyam's intro was one of a kind. For the first thirty episodes or so, you'd think he was a parallel lead vying for the heroine's love-- the nice guy who would eventually sacrifice his love for the main lead. He charms his way into people's hearts with his wise words and touching gestures, so they are complete comfortable with him, and then he strikes.
The audience first gets a glimpse of how sinister his intentions are when he does the vows with Anjali on Teej. No one would suspect such an innocent face of holding such adulterous thoughts about another woman. Slowly, we see the darker, manipulative shades of Shyam, and eventually his deeds become outrageous and downright disgusting.
I couldn't be the only one that got goosebumps every time he did his psychopathic practice monologues or cringed every time he touched or tried to touch Khushi. And I definitely know almost everyone wanted to bash is face in when he did that one-sided sneer.
Regardless, no matter how horrible, Shyam was one of the best developed characters on the show. And who can forget the trademark Daiyya Ho, and the blue stone bracelet. I'd argue that Shyam's character was on par with Arnav and Khushi, and Abhaas did full justice to that role. He played the character so well that he was subjected to numerous hate mails and constant bashing. His presence was so crucial to the storyline that the show went down the drain after Shyam's exit.
Think about it- without Shyam (1) Khushi would never have worked at AR; (2) Lavanya would never have come to Shantivan, ergo Khushi would never come to SH; (3) Arnav and Khushi would never have gotten married the first time around; (4) Arnav would never say I love you the first time; (5) EvilGranny wouldn't have made an entrance and pressured Arnav into properly marrying Khushi...yada yada yada
True, maybe things would have been less complicated for Arnav and Khushi without Shyam's presence, but in a way we have to thank him for his unsuccessful plans b/c they brought ArShi together.
Nah. He's a vile creature and here are a few example why:
Note: I tried to include clips that induce the least amount of pain and anger. If you want to watch the actual scenes feel free to look for them yourselves. I can't handle it.
(5) A Convincing Liar

Look at the way he lies with ease. Khushi hit on him?! No evidence of their engagement. Using everything Khushi did to help Arnav against her. His arguments are so damn sensible. And he is so convincing in proving his point. Even knowing that he's lying, it was hard for me not to believe him! There were three people going against him, and yet he was able to hold his ground so well. That goes to show how skilled he is at this game.
The point of this clip was to show the above and that he kidnapped and tortured Arnav. But I don't have the heart to show any clips of him beating Arnav up.
(4) Causing the Most Horrible Misunderstanding That Ruined EVERYTHING

When I first watched this scene I was so high on all the wonderful Arnav-Khushi moments that happened till then, that it took me a minute to understand what happened. The most beautiful bubble on the planet just burst and I wasn't ready to accept it. When he hugged Khushi and started spurting nonsensical bs I felt like a thousand spiders just crawled up my body. And when Arnav showed up. Yea, not going there.
But the worst was when he lied about Khushi and him having an affair. Why, god, whyyy?
Even though it was the CVs who did this, I hold Shyam responsible for my fall to the deepest pit of the ocean from the peak of the himalayas.
(3) Kidnapping Arnav and Making Moves on Khushi

(Start around 2:03)
Everytime Shyam's plan reign supreme, TRPs suffer. The kidnapping track led to some of the darker days of IPKKND where we had to witness Shyam showering in Arnav-Khushi's bathroom and parade around their room half naked. Or have Khushi feed him Kheer. Or witness him say I love you to her as he held her face. *Blech*
And the kidnapping. He tortured and had Arnav beaten for days. This clip shows how carefully he planned the kidnapping after finding Arnav's will- just so he could have the money transferred to him and then finish Arnav off for good.
(2) Killing His Own Child

(Start around 5:03)
Rather than include the actual clip of Anjali's fall, I put this one because Shyam is FINALLY confessing to most of his crimes. There is not a hint of guilt on his face-- what kind of a heartless human can kill his own daughter just to get a ticket to wealth. This man. He planned the entire thing so well, acted the part of a devastated father-to-be, and slipped his way back into Shantivan. This act shows the extent of his evilness. And it was after such careful planning to bring him down that we see the real face of Shyam Manohar Jha.
Abhaas killed this scene. He went out with a bang!
(1) Inducing Shashi's Stroke

(Start around 9:20)
Ugh, what a slimeball. I hate this scene. This is my #1 scene-- even more than him killing his unborn child-- because this scene scared me the most. It is the first time you see the extent to which Shyam is willing to go to marry Khushi and to cover his tracks. Till then you know he is a clever guy who is a slimeball. But at this point you realize that this guy is seriously dangerous. He is willing to kill, and he won't have second thought about it. He is walking on the edge of being a psychopath.
Notable Mentions
Hmm let's count all his failed attempts at killing Anjali and wooing Khushi and destroying Arnav: (1) Loose wire in the pool
(2) Scorpion
(3) Dropping perfume on Anjali's sari so it would catch on fire
(3) Failed Car Breaks
(4) putting Anjali's necklace in Khushi's purse so she'd lose her job and reputation
(5) 'Accidentally' dropping Sindoor on Khushi's picture
(6) Speeding up his engagement by throwing out Shashi's tablets.
(7) Intentionally have Anjali scold him so Khushi would think she's an abusive wife
(8) Beating the shit out of a rickshaw driver b/c Anjali told him to get a rakhi tied by Khushi (haha!)
(9) Throwing out Shashi's tablets and causing another attack
(10) Every single time he touches Khushi. (I refuse to watch any of those scenes)
(11) Kidnapping Arnav and manipulating Khushi to get Arnav to sign the papers.
I try to block out Shyam moments so let me know if I'm forgetting anything. And if you actually watched all these scenes more power to you. I am sure this will be my least liked Top Five.
Oh, and as a treat for watching these horrible scenes, here's a clip of Arnav hitting Shyam EIGHT times:
