I enjoyed the first episode ... good to go! This show may not break TRP barriers, it might not create armies of frenzied fans (thank the lord for that! đ) ... but at first look, it promises to be a very watchable entertaining show, with many things that an average viewer can relate to, and characters that are just a little skewed towards the zany side of believable.
A Daadi who is bothered about the marriage of her eldest grand daughter, and even more bothered that no one else in the family is worried in the slightest ... đ First refreshing change - the heroine is not 18 and fresh out of school ... instead, she is already (according to worried Daadi) past marriageable age! And perfectly happy with it! đ
Daadi's one-liner of the day - marriages are made in heaven ... 'so do you expect me to wait for you to go up and throw a guy down from there for my granddaughter?'
Marriage counsellor provides suitable boy ... with the face of a dog 𤣠Because apparently said granddaughter, apart from being old, also has another disadvantage ... she loves dogs! And this is a sanskaari dog - he does namaste too 𤣠So Daadi, please adjust with his face, after all, he is adjusting with Chhanchhan's age đ¤Ł
A Dad who is chilled out, in an unconventional profession himself, doesn't bat an eyelid at the life choices of his kids, gives them freedom ... a mom, ditto, who respects her own MIL for being more like a mother, and hopes for a similar MIL for her daughter ... kids who affectionately laugh at their worried daadi and her crazy dreams ... but never brattish or spoiled ...
A protagonist who can't cook đ but sure can stand up for herself and her friends for what she thinks is right ... no 'darti hai' here ... but a firm ''dil ka kahaa maanti hai' ... but again, within her own delineated boundaries ...
Temple scene - the first clash ... as panditji tells Chhanchhan and friend that Vishnuji is sleeping so no darshan ... Uma Ben arrives, a quick greasing of palms and Vishnuji can be woken up from his slumber. As Uma Ben superciliously tells Chhanchhan ... 'Vishnuji wakes up only for Lakshmi.' Great voice inflections by Supriya P there. Also the way she tells her servant - 'upar karo' the umbrella ... pure arrogance in the voice - I'm talking to an inferior being.
Chhanchhan calls a spade a spade ... 'this is bribery.' Uma Ben not amused. Pandit wisely removes himself from the battlefield. CC's friend equally wisely reminds CC that they don't have the time to battle over ideals, because Purvi is waiting for the prasad. Chhanchhan unwillingly agrees ... Uma Ben rubs it in by asking her for thanks ... Chhanchhan thanks her politely ... but her eyes give her away. This is not right ...
The clashes between Sanaya and Supriya are going to be good to watch.
Shall reserve judgement on Uma Ben ... she did come across as typical vampish saas material ... but going by the actress and the PH, she will not continue to be so.
So all in all a good first episode.
I love the way Sanaya has managed to shake off her previous character ... the exaggerated mannerisms and facial gestures were missing, the acting was much more restrained, the clash with Supriya was very restrained, quiet and dignified, the objections voiced very politely, yet firmly and confidently. I liked that shade of mutiny in Chhanchhan ... I'm giving in to you only because I respect your age ... and I don't have the time to battle it out ...
It will take a little while for everyone to sink into character ... Sanaya, Supriya and Chhanchhan's parents are already pretty much in synch ... the friends, CC's brother and sister will take a little time. Male lead ... didn't notice him much today, he was barely there. He has a tough time ahead trying to match up to both Sanaya and Supriya.
