I am amazed at how beautifully this show is developing and unraveling layers of the characters. One character that has managed to surprise me the most is "Dukh ba."
Ever since her introduction, I've been wondering why would you name anyone "Dukh" meaning "sorrow?" Will she be the reason for sorrow in Kumud and Saras' lives? In the beginning of the story, it definitely seemed that way. She seemed to irritate everyone to the point where her own daughter didn't fear God's wrath as much as her mother's. However, the makers have added a surprising layer to this character that I most misunderstood. I couldn't stand that way she seemed to be holding a grudge against Saras for something that is clearly not his fault. And boy was I wrong!
In the recent episodes, Dukh ba has ironically proven to be the only one who has managed to connect to Saras' Dukh and relieve it (however little). The way Dukh ba and Saras' eyes converse is heart wrenching! There are no words uttered, yet the magnitude of pain is clearly felt by her. And just like that, with a swift caress of her hand - starting on his forehead and sweeping through his hair down the side to rest on his cheeks - manages to ease the pain.. little bit every time.
This was hands down one of the most poignant scenes of yesterday's episode!
She runs to receive him at the doorstep and out come her first words to Saras...
"Ab tak is haalat mein...(pause)" "In this condition, until now..."
Since the kite incident untill he came home..?
Since his mother's death untill today?
She realizes the Dukh that Saras has been carrying within him and for how long!
"Taalaab ka paani kitnaa thandaa thaa!" "The water of the lake was so cold!"
She feels the numbness of the chilling incident he has lived!
Saras simply closes his eyes at the familiar feeling that takes over his senses. He feels the motherly warmth that he has always craved. He gulps down the pain and lets that warmth in - the warmth that tells him, it will be alright, HE will be alright.
Wow.. hats of to the thinkers and the executors of this beautiful emotion.👏
