Islamabad: About 350 people attended a commemoration ceremony to mark the death anniversary of Wall Street Journal correspondent Daniel Pearl, who was abducted from Karachi and killed by Pakistan-based terrorists in 2002.
The function was organised by US Consul General Mary Witt in Karachi after such a desire was expressed by Pearl's family, the Daily Times newspaper reported from Karachi.
Based in Mumbai and living with wife Marion and their child, Pearl was in Karachi to follow up the lead of terror network when he was lured outside the city, abducted and killed after some days.
Marion is now producing a film on her own quest to find Pearl's killers. Her role is being performed by Hollywood star Angelina Jolie and the film is currently under production, partly being shot in India.
School and college students were invited to a small performance by Karachi artistes Saleem Javed and Najam Shiraz.
Students from America would visit Pakistan as part of an exchange programme to learn more about its culture and society.
Khalid Mohammed Sheikh, a British-bred Pakistani militant, supposedly a key person in the Al Qaeda network, surrendered some months later before his 'handler', a retired Pakistan Army brigadier and a functionary of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI)'s Afghanistan desk.
He has been held without trial since.
